The Johns Hopkins Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS) seeks a Sr. Research Specialist to support our research in the area of protein Biophysics high throughput microbial genetics and modeling. The Sr Research Specialist will conduct scientific research independently drive forward their scientific projects and/or support the projects of other lab members. They will have a deep understanding of the context and technical aspects of the research to assist in methods development and interpretation of results. The range of duties includes but is not limited to experimental design developing methodology conducting modifying and troubleshooting procedures as needed data collection and analysis. There is the potential for authorship in scientific papers and it is expected that the Sr Research Specialist will contribute to manuscript preparation. This position is suitable for individuals who desire to carry out collaborative cuttingedge research in biophysics and biochemistry.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for carrying out and driving forward assigned ongoing research projects.
- Apply problemsolving skills based on an understanding of the research and experience and progressively develop a skill base and knowledge of lab research.
- Follow and optimize procedures and protocols and utilize appropriate techniques to develop perform and analyze experiments which may include making protocol modifications with minimal supervision.
- Exercise independent judgment while planning experiments evaluating/interpreting results and organizing data.
- Demonstrate scientific methods procedures and techniques gained through previous training and experience.
- Develop and carry out new techniques for various studies ongoing in the lab.
- Performs routine and complex research laboratory including bacterial continuous culture protein biochemistry and molecular biology techniques.
- Independently processes and analyzes data formulates conclusions and creates appropriate statistical presentations including graphs and charts reporting to report research/laboratory results grant reports scientific presentations and manuscripts.
- Meet regularly with PI and colleagues to review lab data troubleshoot problems prioritize tasks and discuss newly published scientific literature relevant to the field.
- Works collaboratively with and assists in training research fellows postdocs graduate students and other laboratory personnel.
- Monitors inventory levels and orders material and supplies by established policies and procedures.
- Keep the laboratory prepared for safety inspections.
- Manages chemical inventory.
- Helps to maintain instrumentation.
- Reconciles our orders on our lab credit card.

Minimum Qualifications- Bachelors Degree in Biology Chemistry or related field.
- Four years experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
Preferred Qualifications- Candidates with a Ph.D. or Masters Degree are strongly encouraged to apply and/or 210 years of experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques coupled with knowledge of Biological Sciences Molecular Biology or Chemistry.
- Experience in coding languages such as Python R and MATLAB.
