KSNW is looking for a Sports Director/Anchor to cover the exciting world of local sports in Kansas. From local high school sports to telling the inspiring personal stories of athletes and coaches this is a great opportunity to lead a team and tell important stories. Were looking for someone with a strong knowledge of Kansas sports teams (or willing to learn about Wichita State Kansas State University of Kansas KC Royals KC Chiefs etc.) and is willing to be an active member of the community and contribute to a positive teamoriented newsroom. The right candidate will tell personal stories be a selfstarter have a strong work ethic and pay close attention to the details. The Sports Director produces and anchors sports reports for all platforms in a manner that is clear engaging and meaningful to news consumers including regularly shooting and editing content.
Essential Duties:
- Produces and presents sports reports for all platforms including shooting and editing video
- Strong understanding of digital content print style and willingness to learn new connectedTV workflows
- Ensures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
- Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner
- Assists in writing copy editing researching and coordinating sports programming and other content
- Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required
- Helps lead the sports team to develop comprehensive sports coverage beyond calling highlights
- Produces special sports content outside of daily newscasts including additional shows and digital content
- Participates in promotional activities including public appearances
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
- Sets up composes and executes video
- Maintains video equipment
- Edits video clips for television broadcasts and digital content
- Writes stories for the website and other digital platforms
- Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites
Requirements & Skills:
- Minimum four years experience in sports reporting or anchoring
- Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and workrelated experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities
- Fluency in English Bilingual Spanish a plus
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
- Superior onair presence
- Experience guiding directing and motivating others
- Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills
- Proficiency with computers telephones copiers scanners fax machines and other office equipment
- Ability to meet deadlines prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution
- Valid drivers license with a good driving record
- Flexibility to work any shift
