Position Title: School Security Officer

JOB SUMMARY
The School Security Officer is a uniformed unarmed professional responsible for ensuring a safe secure and welcoming environment across school campuses or district facilities. The position involves proactive patrol monitoring emergency response and stakeholder engagement to support a positive and secure learning atmosphere. This role requires strong interpersonal skills vigilance and sound judgment in both routine and emergency situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Campus Safety & Patrol
Conduct regular patrols of school buildings grounds and perimeters.
Monitor entry points doors windows and gates for unauthorized access and report security issues.
Ensure the visibility of security presence to deter disruptive or criminal behavior.
Respond to alarms emergencies and incidents in a prompt and appropriate manner.
2. Stakeholder Engagement & Support
Establish a positive rapport with students staff parents and visitors.
Act as a visible approachable figure to deescalate conflict and promote respectful behavior.
Support administrators in student supervision behavioral interventions and investigations.
3. Emergency Preparedness & Response
Assist in conducting safety drills (fire weather active intruder etc.).
Maintain emergency evacuation kits and support implementation of school safety plans.
Safely intervene in behavioral medical or crisis incidents using minimum necessary force.
4. Security Systems & Equipment Oversight
Monitor and assist with the operation of surveillance door access alarm and visitor management systems.
Partner with Information Services and Operations to maintain security hardware functionality.
Assist in setup and operation of metal detection equipment and crowd control at school events.
5. Incident Management & Documentation
Prepare detailed and timely reports on incidents activities and safety assessments.
Conduct or support internal investigations under the direction of the Director of Safety & Security.
Support background check processes and ensure chain of custody for records.
6. Interagency & Event Coordination
Collaborate with School Resource Officers and law enforcement agencies.
Assist with security logistics for sports events assemblies and special programs after school hours.
Represent CSD in response to fire/burglar alarms or emergency incidents outside of school hours.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or GED.
At least 3 years of experience in security law enforcement or a related field.
Valid drivers license with a clean record.
Ability to pass background check reference checks and drug/alcohol screening.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong customer service interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with law enforcement and school staff.
Knowledge of school safety policies and procedures (CSD preferred).
Strong integrity sound judgment and ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
Good vision hearing and physical ability to respond in emergencies.
Preferred Certifications (within 12 months of hire):
National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100 200 and 700
CPR and AED Certification (willing to obtain)
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing this jobs essential functions. While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Although most work will be completed during traditional business hours the incumbent is expected to be available 24/7 to respond to the police or other emergency summons involving CSD security.
