Job Description

Major Gifts Officer

Founded in 1888 The Baldwin School is an allgirls college preparatory independent day school PreKGrade 12 dedicated to a tradition of excellence in education. Reporting to the Director of Development the Major Gifts Officers primary responsibility is to
qualify cultivate solicit and steward a portfolio of current and potential donors with the capacity
to make gifts of $25000. S/he will work collaboratively with colleagues in the advancement
office school administration and highlevel volunteers to create and implement fundraising
plans that result in major gifts for The Baldwin School. This is a frontline position that will
require local regional and national travel.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop annual visit solicitation and revenue goals in conjunction with the Director of
    Development.
  • Create detailed prospect relationship strategies around donor interests and school
    priorities for an assigned portfolio of approximately 100 current and prospective donors.
  • Conduct 1215 facetoface meetings per month for the purposes of qualifying
    cultivating soliciting and stewarding prospects and donors.
  • Prepare proposals and materials including written documentation for accurate gift
    recording use recognition and stewardship.
  • Ensure the integrity of information in the schools Raisers Edge database relevant to
    assigned prospects including visit reports stages strategies and tasks.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of Baldwin School history academic and extracurricular
    programs and its faculty students and administration; maintain a thorough
    understanding of the Schools current priorities and initiatives
  • Attend and support appropriate alumnae and donor engagement events as related to
    assigned prospects or as needed by the department.
  • Participate in departmental and professional training programs to increase expertise and
    visibility within the profession.
  • Promote a flexible collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development.

Professional Skills and Competencies
While Baldwin School will consider a broad range of backgrounds the ideal candidate will have
the following qualifications/experience.

  • Bachelors degree and five (5) or more years of progressively responsible fundraising
    experience.
  • Personal success cultivating soliciting and stewarding major individual donors at the
    five and sixfigure levels; demonstrated ability to inspire discerning highnetworth
    individuals to philanthropic leadership.
  • Outstanding relationship building skills the ability to garner trust quickly and experience
    in developing strategy motivational teamwork negotiations and creative problem
    solving.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to engage
    prospective donors through articulate compelling and wellreasoned funding proposals.
  • Selfstarting strategic thinker whose hallmark qualities include being positive persistent
    personable and possessing a desire to succeed.
  • The ability to work in a fastpaced goaloriented environment and relate to a variety of
    people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • A personal commitment to excellence integrity and the mission of Baldwin.
  • Ability to travel locally regionally and nationally.
