Job Description Summary

Performs general carpentry work including constructing remodeling and/or repairing buildings additions partitions wood furniture and fixtures.

Job Description

Wake Forest Facilities and Campus Services offers a Monday through Friday work schedule with no travel and generous paid time off (PTO) benefits and retirement plans. Tools uniforms and work shoes are provided.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs general carpentry work in the construction repair remodeling and renovation of floors roofs ceilings stairways partitions doors windows casings screens wood trim and fixtures.

  • Operates a variety of carpenters hand tools power tools and standard measuring instruments.

  • Makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work and selects material needed in accordance with general instructions.

  • Saws planes drills or mortises lumber for doors cabinets shelves molding furniture frames signs related objects; cuts mortise for locks and hinges; hangs doors.

  • Installs glass in windows doors and partitions; installs and replaces ceiling tile.

  • Sets up and removes special equipment and staging for scheduled and special events connected with Wake Forest University as needed.

  • May perform minor tasks involving pouring concrete and laying brick or concrete blocks.

Required Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • High school graduate plus one to three years repair and maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Skills in carpentry building repair and/or finish plaster and concrete.

  • Skills in concrete installation and repair.

  • Masonry repair and installation skills.

  • Ability to understand and follow general instructions related to carpentry work.

  • Ability to read understand follow and enforce safety procedures.

  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.

Accountabilities:

Responsible for own work only.

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Climbing Balancing Stooping Kneeling Crouching Crawling Reaching Walking Pushing Pulling Lifting Fingering Grasping and Repetitive Motions.

  • Visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes drill presses power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arms reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a nonrepetitive nature such as carpenters technicians service people plumbers painters mechanics etc.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Activities occur both inside and outside subject to both environmental conditions. Worker are subject to noise vibrations hazards atmospheric conditions and oils.
