Job Description
Our Opportunity:
Chewys Sponsored Ads business is expanding rapidly and were seeking skilled Senior Engineers to help shape the future of our ad platform. If youre passionate about building intuitive user experiences for advertisers and customers alike wed love to hear from you! In this role youll drive iterative development mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of one of Chewys fastestgrowing revenue streams.
About You:
As an experienced Software Engineer with a background in backend and fullstack development you excel at working on backend services with technologies like Java Kotlin Kafka and SQL and NoSQL databases. Youre comfortable using TypeScript React NodeJS and Express to work on customer and internal facing applications. You have strong experience in CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins) cloud environments (AWS) and serviceoriented architecture.
Your handson experience and track record ensure you can build and ship new applications or features to existing applications quickly and efficiently.
About the Team:
Launched in 2022 Chewys Sponsored Ads platform enables vendors to promote their products onsite and offsite significantly contributing to Chewys revenue growth. The team manages both customerfacing and vendorfacing experiences balancing a startup culture with operational excellence. We are based in Boston and Seattle.
What Youll Do:
- Be responsible for delivering projects designing systems and mentoring junior engineers.
- Design develop and implement solutions using varied technologies focusing on scalability maintainability latency and resiliency.
- Participate in team estimation process and deliver according to the estimates.
- Perform code reviews and provide meaningful feedback to other engineers on the team.
- Apply dev ops practices to minimize technical debt and improve release cycles.
- Participate in user research to understand customer needs and enhance our ad platform.
- Establish strong working relationships at all organizational levels and across functional teams.
What Youll Need:
- Bachelors degree in computer science or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8 years of experience as a software engineer focusing on modern Java (or similar OO language) service development. Familiarity with modern web development using JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (React Vue or Angular).
- Proven experience building scalable highly available systems.
- Great coding and debugging skills.
- Passion for metrics and datadriven decision making.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices including coding standards code reviews source control build processes testing and operations.
- Solid understanding of CS fundamentals: objectoriented design algorithms data design and problemsolving.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Bonus:
- Experience in ad tech and/or ecommerce.
- Experience with Scrum XP or other agile methodologies.
- Familiarity with test driven development.
- Familiarity with AWS.
