Job Description

Description

This position provides academic advising and counseling to studentathletes in various academic majors. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable NCAA university and ASUN guidelines.

Final title and salary grade level of position is commensurate with the successful applicants education and experience relative. Bachelors degree only Academic Support Specialist title with salary grade of 512; Masters degree Academic Advisor title with salary grade of 511.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide academic advising and counseling to studentathletes in various academic majors in matters relating to goalsetting curriculum choice course load study habits and course selection;
  • Evaluate prospective and current studentathlete records and transcripts to ensure eligibility requirements are met following NCAA and institutional policies and guidelines;
  • Ensure compliance with applicable NCAA university and ASUN guidelines;
  • Track studentathlete academic performance through use of progress reports software solutionscurrently Dropout Detectiveand regular communication with faculty members;
  • Regulate and monitor class registration and drop/add;
  • Identify atrisk students and refer to appropriate resources;
  • Work individually with studentathletes concerning study skills and classrelated content/requirements;
  • Execute extensive and effective communication with coaches and others concerning studentathlete academic performance;
  • Arrange various testing and provide guidance with issues related to personal development;
  • Ensure services and accommodations are available for studentathletes with disabilities;
  • Maintain records and files and ensure confidentiality of information;
  • Interact with studentathletes parents coaches faculty and staff in person by telephone and bymail/email;
  • Provide verbal and written reports regarding academic progress;
  • Attend recruiting functions and various events and meetings which may include evenings and weekends;
  • Analyze and interpret the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) information for designated teams/programs;
  • Participate in development and execution of programming designed specifically to manage and experience success inAPR;
  • Maintain active involvement with the eligibility certification of designated studentathletes;
  • Frequently coordinate and communicate with the athletics compliance office and certifying officer regarding academic progress and eligibility;
  • Monitor and manage study hall and study hall tracker software;
  • Manage textbook scholarships;
  • Assist with planning and implementing programming for success;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required;
  • Masters degree preferred;
  • Experience with Division I athletic advising or compliance preferred.

LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
None

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of applicable NCAA university and ASUN guidelines;
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of studentathletes coaches staff faculty administrators parents and visitors;
  • Effective communication skills both verbal and written;
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and files;
  • Ability to attend recruiting functions various events and meetings which may include some evenings/weekends;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Regular and prompt attendance;
  • Knowledge of and the ability to analyze and interpret the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) information for designated teams/programs;
  • Overall knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
