The Malden Public Schools (MPS) is a richly diverse school district located within the Greater Boston area and accessible by the MBTA orange line train. Maldens student body comprises approximately 6500 students who represent 59 different countries and speak 67 different languages. We have 1 early learning center 5 K8 schools and 1 high school. Objective:
Malden Public Schools (MPS) seeks a Director of Intervention and Instructional Support who ensures all educators have access to the knowledge skills and resources that they need to provide every MPS student with a highquality culturally and linguistically sustaining and wellrounded education that prepares them to actively and responsibly read write reason communicate create and compute effectively within a global society.
Overview of position:
The Director of Intervention and Instructional Support leads districtwide teaching and learning efforts in their content areas with an explicit focus on closing opportunity gaps for students with disabilities multilingual learners and students living in poverty as a means to ensuring that all Malden students thrive and are fully prepared for the future.
Responsibilities:
Lead school and district leaders in data inquiry cycles that drive continuous improvements in teaching and learning.
Provide highquality instructional leadership support to school leaders leadership teams coaches and educators across the district with a focus on design and implementation of data inquiry cycles which include design and implementation of highquality data systems for tiered supports across the district.
- Lead school and district teams in analyzing results from MCAS and ACCESS other standardized tests and districtwide formative assessments.
- Oversee the design and implementation of highquality SchoolImprovement Plans at all district schools.
- Develop and implement data inquiry cycles that allow school teams to effectively monitor the implementation of School Improvement Plans; these cycles drive effective coaching and instructional leadership efforts at the district and building level as well as effective professional learning efforts. This portfolio includes working in collaboration with content directors in the Office of Teaching and Learning to support:
- Contentspecific implementation of districtwide vision for effective coaching and instructional leadership at the district and building level supporting buildingbased coaches APs and Principals.
- Contentspecific implementation of districtwide professional learning including coaching and professional learning including but not limited to New Teacher Induction and yearround programming districtwide Professional Development Days and Summer Professional Development opportunities;.
- Design and implementation of intervention block programming after school interventions vacation week & summer programming and programming for advanced learning
- Lead design and implementation of district wide systems for provision of tiered supports anchored in the use of universal screeners and interim assessments that are valid for diverse populations of students
- Effectively partner with School Leaders and Instructional Leadership Teams to guide implement and adjust schooldeveloped policy systems improvement plans and structures in the schools instructional practices in order to improve instructional leadership and teaching practice that positively impacts student outcomes.
- Continuously evaluate existing programs presenting annual and ad hoc reports.
- Ensure that the district is in compliance with contentrelated state and federal guidance laws and expectations.
- Seek and apply for appropriate private state and federal grants that support tiered supports and data inquiry cycles.
Ensure successful implementation of Title I Programming across the district in service of districtwide instructional vision
Lead efforts to ensure access to highquality Title I programming coherent with districtwide instructional vision across all three tiers of instruction.
- With educators families and other stakeholders collaboratively set a vision for Title1 programming that meets state and federal requirements promotes the districtwide instructional vision and drives to an effective system of tiered supports across the district that closes opportunity gaps for students
- Coordinate all aspects of the Title I program including but not limited to grant writing budget preparation coordinated program review audits reports and other data needed by the DESE and the federal government
- Purchase appropriate instructional materials and supplies as needed to successfully attain the goals of the program coherent with districtwide work to align curriculum to state curriculum frameworks and WIDA2020 standards;
- Work collaboratively with other outside agencies and private schools when their services are required by a Title I eligible student.
- Oversee all aspects of the Title I Grant its budget and all aspects of the Title I program for the district.
- Coordinate Title I staff including assignment evaluation and assistance in the hiring of Title I personnel.
Advance systems of collaboration across Malden Public Schools and the Office of Teaching and Learning;
Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the district to set the the vision for worldclass instruction in grades preK12; Center the needs of professional learning data analysis and curriculum implementation on the needs of student populations that have historically experienced the least success in the Malden Public Schools particularly students with disabilities and Multilingual Learners
- Develops ongoing mechanisms for seeking out student family educator and school leadership team voice in districtlevel decisionmaking processes;
- Ensures contentspecific decision making is coherent with districtwide vision other district expectations and the instructional needs of students with disabilities and multilingual learners
- Effectively communicates district decisions and expectations with school stakeholders
- Creates meaningful trusting partnerships between school based teams and central office
- Proactively and consistently responds to classroom school and district needs
- Commits to excellence and delivers consistently with a servicedelivery mindset
- Serves as a member of the Malden Leadership Team and is the districts pointperson for inquiries related to this content area.
- Serve as a liaison between the Malden Public Schools and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as needed in their content areas
- Assist principals in the selection of and evaluation of staff members in their content areas as directed; in particular oversee evaluation of districtwide Media Specialists.
- Perform all other duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and/or Superintendent of Schools.
Supervision and Evaluation:
- This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning
- Directorlevel job descriptions involve comprehensive lists of responsibilities under the purview of each individual Director. However in the course of implementing a multiyear district strategic plan various responsibilities from the job description will be prioritized for the Directors focus in each year. At the beginning of each school year the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning in collaboration with the Director will jointly identify three areas of priority for the Directors work during that year which will provide a focus for evaluation and supervision. These areas may include: specific grade spans and content areas for focus of curriculum implementation efforts; a particular school or schools identified for coaching and support; or a particular approach (such as support for a particular student group or staff role).
Qualifications:
- Will possess a masters or higher degree from an accredited college or university
- Will show evidence of at least three years of satisfactory fulltime paid experience as a publicschool teacher; experience in urban settings strongly preferred
- Will show evidence of experience as a school or district administrator with experience as Principal or Assistant Principal in an urban setting strongly preferred.
- Must hold current DESE Licensure as a Supervisor/Director in their content area or as a Principal/Assistant Principal; they must also possess a DESE SEI Endorsement
- Must be able to exhibit knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks of WIDA 2020 Standards and of state MCAS and ACCESS testing programs (and emerging programs as information becomes available)
