The Mayo Clinic Florida Hematology/Oncology Acute Care Clinic (ACC) is an outpatient clinic for the assessment and treatment of new or acute symptoms related to a patients underlying malignancy or cancer treatment. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) hired into this position will be an integral role across our Hematology/Oncology practice seeing patients with early and advanced solid and blood malignancies requiring acute care for a wide range of needs. These needs primarily include symptom management oncologic emergencies and treatmentrelated complications including immunotherapy complications. Time is split in this role between seeing patients in the cancer infusion therapy unit for acute needs and infusion reactions and outpatient clinic supporting patients with concerns that arise between their scheduled cancer follow up.
It is an ideal role for a NP or PA to work autonomously with collaborative support as needed. This role requires collaboration with the patients primary oncology team medical specialties Emergency Department and other hospital services. This is a busy and dynamic practice requiring individuals with excellent communication time management flexibility and critical thinking skillsets. Success in this role requires strong internal medicine skills a passion for caring for cancer patients and a desire for continuous learning and process improvement. This requires individuals to demonstrate adaptability leadership skills and a keen interest in quality improvement. The NP or PA serving in this role will see all solid tumor and hematologic malignancies in collaboration with respective tumorspecific Oncology and Hematology consultants NP or PAs fellows pharmacists RNs and other allied health staff.
The Nurse Practitioner and Physicians Assistants (NPPA) roles possess advanced education and clinical training who provides comprehensive and coordinated care to patients with acute and chronic conditions. The NPPA works collaboratively with physicians and other health care professionals to deliver highquality patientcentered and evidencebased care. The NPPA practices independently and autonomously within the scope of practice defined by the state and the Mayo Clinic in care settings including clinics hospitals ambulatory surgery centers or a patients home.
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant at Mayo Clinic also may perform the following tasks in any authorized setting:
Perform comprehensive physical examinations health assessments diagnose and treat acute issues for oncology patients.
Order perform and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures.
Prescribe medications therapies and other interventions according to the patients needs and in accordance with FL state laws and department policies.
Monitor effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
Partner with the nursing team to manage hypersensitivity reactions to therapeutic infusions
Coordinate and facilitate referrals and transitions of care across the continuum.
Patient education and counselling.
Participate in quality and process improvement activities.
Adhere to the Mayo Clinics policies procedures and standards of practice.
Maintain and update clinical records and documentation.
Other departmental or institutional assignments as needed.

Nurse Practitioner: Mastersprepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current FL RN and APRN license and certification as an FNP ANP or ACNP.
Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the FL State Board of Medical Practice.
Additional Qualifications:
Active BLS and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date and DEA registration required.
