As an Independent Living Specialist working approximately 20 hours per week you will be a catalyst for change in the lives of fellow individuals with disabilities. You will work alongside them as they identify their goals break down barriers and build the skills necessary to live as independently as possible. Your days will be dynamic and meaningful ranging from sharing vital information and connecting people with essential resources to offering peer support grounded in your own lived experience and advocating for individual and systemic change.
This isnt about telling people what to do; its about empowering them to take the lead in their own lives. You will be a listener a guide and an ally fostering an environment where choice control and active participation are not just ideals but realities. Whether its assisting someone in transitioning from an institutional setting to their own home teaching selfadvocacy skills or collaborating with community partners to create a more inclusive society your contributions will have a profound impact.
