As a Speech Therapist heres a bigpicture view of what youll do:

• Provide homebased speech therapy to patients having communication swallowing or cognitive difficulties due to an illness or injury
• Work as part of a home health team which may include an RN LPN CNA HHA PT and OT focused on the patients plan of care and established goals
• Observe and evaluate a patients ability to communicate swallow and process information
• Conduct patient assessments document progress and ensure patient goals are met
• Assist with mouth breathing and swallowing exercises fluency articulation and reading
• Educate patient and family on plan of care therapy goals safety practices and selfcare

A few musthaves for Speech Language Pathologists:

• Masters or Doctoral degree in SpeechLanguage Pathology and active SLP license in Virginia
• Minimum of 2 years of speech therapy experience ideally in home healthcare
• Knowledge of state and federal home health regulations
• CPR Certification
• Good clinical judgement critical thinking skills strong communicator empathy and compassion
• Valid Drivers License and/or reliable transportation
