Job Title: Underwriter Excess Casualty
Job Summary: The Underwriter Excess Casualty is responsible for evaluating accepting declining rating quoting and binding new or renewal submissions with high premium or risk exposure. This position builds upon existing underwriting knowledge and takes on greater responsibility in reviewing complex risk submissions analyzing account losses and ensuring profitability. The Underwriter will build strong relationships with agents reinsurers and other stakeholders while managing a profitable book of business.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze evaluate accept decline rate quote and bind new or renewal submissions with high premium or risk exposure.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with agents reinsurers and other key contacts.
- Review complex submissions account losses pricing models and premiums to ensure profitability.
- Select appropriate risks and review complex sources of profit to maintain profitable underwriting.
- Assist in special projects or other duties as needed demonstrating flexibility in the role.
- Collaborate with internal teams to communicate findings and underwriting recommendations effectively.
- Analyze and use underwriting software to summarize and process large data sets.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and participate in underwritingrelated continuing education.
- Present nonstandard solutions to management for approval with minimal supervision.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in insurance finance risk management business or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant underwriting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong analytical and decisionmaking skills with the ability to evaluate complex risks.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written to present underwriting recommendations.
- Ability to work independently and manage a more complex book of business.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and data analysis tools.
- Ability to generate innovative solutions and demonstrate effective risk management strategies.
- Some authority to process approvals issue policies and make changes to existing policies.
- Ability to handle slightly more complex risks compared to lowerlevel underwriting positions.
Compensation Package:
- Salary: $105K $145K per year (based on experience).
- Bonus opportunities.
- Up to 15% profit sharing based on company performance.
