The City of Oxnards Police Department is seekingCommunity Services Officers with strong technical and customer service skills to be part of the team. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to understand read and properly interpret applicable laws rules and regulations related to the assignment.
Under general supervision a Community Service Officer performs a variety of nonsworn assignments in support of the Citys law enforcement activities including vehicle maintenance/inventory false business alarm tracking gang or serious habitual offender tracking handling low priority calls for police service and assisting sworn personnel in completing a variety of patrol and investigative duties. This position requires interacting with the community and a high degree of customer service is expected
Classification Title: Public Safety Investigative Specialist
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This classification is distinguished from the Public Safety Investigative Specialist Senior in that it provides specialized assistance and support related to both sworn and civilian personnel
SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding nonroutine matters and deadlines.
WORK SCHEDULE:Shifts are worked on a four day ten hour schedule. Depending on shift assigned this position will vary from 6:00 am 4:00 pm 8:00 am 6:00 pm or 1:00 pm 11:00 pm. In additionthis position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. Work hours and shifts are subject to change based on operational needs. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.(This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.)
POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE:
Positions assigned tomissing personsmay be responsible for:
Assisting sworn personnel with completing investigative duties related to missing persons;
Conducting interviews to gather information and acquire leads.
Positions assigned tosex registrant trackingmay be responsible for
Assisting with data collection tracking and investigative duties including registrations for offenders;
Preparing court packets:
Performing data entry;
Assisting detectives with investigations for violations.
Positions assigned tovictim servicesmay be responsible for:
Providing assistance to victims of sexual assault domestic violence and homicide;
Informing victims of their rights;
Accompanying victims during medical exams and interviews;
Providing information on victim resources and reviewing Child and Family Service Referrals to determine those requiring further investigation by detectives.

NOTE:For most positions the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office/Google) and webbased enabled tools therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with ongoing work.
Regular and reliable attendance effective communication skills and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions.
Employees are required to participate in the Citys direct deposit plan and are paid on a biweekly basis.
This position requires a 12 month probationary period.
