Job Description

Assistant Professor of English American Literature

Notre Dames School of Arts Sciences and Business English Department is seeking a fulltime tenure track assistant professor of English to teach a full range of literature courses within the liberal arts tradition beginning August 2025. We seek an Americanist with a focus on Black Studies. The successful candidate will teach our required 19th and 20thcentury American literature courses as well as elective courses in African and AfricanAmerican literature regular literary topics courses and composition (ENG101). Faculty also deliver courses in the MA in English Literature program and online accelerated undergraduate programs. Teaching load is 4/3. Candidates should have successful robust teaching experience with traditional and nontraditional learners and must have completed Ph.D. by date of employment. Applicants should be aware that faculty members in the department are expected to be able to teach a variety of courses depending on background.


The Department desires to welcome colleagues who value teaching in a liberal arts and sciences environment and who have a particular interest in undergraduate education. Experience and/or interest in assessment and online teaching is desirable. Faculty are expected to be deeply involved in the life of the University including advising students contributing to committee work and participating in department and University events. Faculty members are expected to pursue a productive research agenda and to support student research and practicum experiences.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree in English and should have university teaching experience. Experience with online teaching and online course development is highly desirable. All instructors are expected to convey course information and communicate with students through the Universitys online course management system.
