Job Description

Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine a Receptionist/Infant Hearing Technician is a valuable member of our team who provides clinical and administrative services to our patient population. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.

Duties of a Receptionist/Infant Hearing Technician may include but are not limited to:

Receptionist Responsibilities

  • Provide information to patients hospital staff community physicians and agencies related to speech and hearing testing and therapy. Direct questions to appropriate personnel if needed.
  • Provide prompt and accurate problem resolution to service issues related but not limited to testing and billing.
  • Answer phones and coordinate new and followup patient appointments. Obtain insurance authorizations and referrals. Requires knowledge of speech and hearing procedures to determine the multiple options of visit types.
  • Check in patients and collect needed paperwork authorizations and referrals for the appointment in a friendly and professional knowledge of the requirements of individual insurance providers and obtaining referrals and preauthorizations.
  • Ensure adequate supplies for the front desk and office.

Infant Hearing Technician Responsibilities

  • Perform hearing screenings in newborn nursery and NICU (peds unit as needed).
  • Documentation of testing and results.
  • Obtain parent questionnaires and hirisk forms.
  • Equipment monitoring/maintenance.
  • Communication with nursery personnel. Qualifications Required: Associates Degree or 48 hours of college credits and six months of professional pediatric experience or in a medical setting. Preferred: Professional experience with infants.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or 48 hours of college credits
  • At least 6 months of professional pediatric and/or medical setting experience
  • At least 6 months of experience managing patient appointments
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree
  • Professional experience with infants.
  • 1 or more years of experience in a medical administrative position managing busy phones and insurance authorizations
  • Experience administering hearing screenings

Posting Overview: This position will remain posted until filled or for a maximum of 90 initial review of all applicants will occur two weeks from the posting date.   • Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises.
  • All Hospital positions maybe subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary.
  • This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
  • This function/position maybe designated as essential. This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect recover and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.

Prior to start datethe selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete preemployment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicines Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $44949 $55141 / year.

The above salary range represents SBUHs good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidates validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
