Job Description

APEX International Education Partners (APEX) was established in 2011 to assist U.S. secondary educational institutions with the recruitment and hosting of international students. Our goal is to promote greater diversity in U.S. high schools facilitate cultural awareness amongst American and international students and ease the process of living and learning abroad.

International (Mandarin) Residential Life Coordinator

APEX is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic International (Mandarin) Residential Life Coordinator for our international middleschool and highschool student dormitory located in Derby Connecticut. The International (Mandarin) Residential Life Coordinator is responsible for helping to provide a safe and nurturing living environment for over 70 Chinese middle and high school students living in the dormitory and attending 10 offcampus private schools and summer enrichments camps throughout Connecticut. The International (Mandarin) Residential Life Coordinator is also responsible for addressing any student issues or concerns delivering a robust and dynamic monthly events & activities calendar and supporting a program that provides enriching social experiences both on and offcampus. The International (Mandarin) Residential Life Coordinator works with other residential life staff members to support student engagement safety and fun!

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Share excitement for living in the dormitory and enthusiasm for helping adolescents develop healthy decision making and social emotional skills.
  • Understand the importance of student accountability and uphold policies as detailed in the Dormitory Handbook.
  • Find joy in helping young people navigate being a part of the living and learning community abroad.
  • Be able to hold onsite Office Hours of Sundays 9am5:30pm and MondaysThursdays 12:30pm9pm.
  • Speak read and write fluent English and Mandarin.

Job Responsibilities:

This International (Mandarin) Residential Life Coordinator will be responsible for working closely with our students Resident Assistants (RAs)/Dorm Parents and daytime Residential Life Coordinators (RLCs) to create and plan various monthly activities for student enjoyment and learning as well as ensure the overall safety wellbeing engagement and academic success of our international students living in the dormitory. These responsibilities include but not limited to:


Student Activities Engagement and Support:

  • Implement programming to foster life skills and community living.
  • Support student leadership initiatives and cultivate partnerships.
  • Participate in and help lead Student Orientations and periodic dormitory meetings.
  • Hold regular 1on1 and group student meetings both on and offcampus.
  • Design implement and attend a diverse range of enriching fun and engaging activities both on and offcampus.
  • Advise students on community service hours/projects and organize events.

Student Welfare and Safety:

  • Conduct nightly room checkins and ensure student whereabouts.
  • Enforce dormitory policies and address violations or conflicts.
  • Conduct biweekly Health & Safety Inspections of student rooms.
  • Monitor student behavior ensuring compliance with policies.
  • Respond to and resolve student concerns or issues promptly.

Community Support:

  • Assist with student behavioral and social issues.
  • Prepare and file student monthly status reports to be shared with parents abroad.
  • Coordinate student school calendars and birthdays.

Administrative and Collaborative Tasks:

  • Use REACH Student Management app for attendance and event tracking.
  • Collaborate with daytime staff for student wellbeing and followup care required.
  • Participate in required medical safety and other trainings/drills.
  • Coordinate and proactively respond to group WeChat conversations with students and staff abroad and domestically.
  • Manage assigned projects and other duties as needed.

Emergency and Health Support:

  • Schedule and accompany students to doctors appointments using company vehicle.
  • Provide transportation to other appointments and assist in emergency situations using company vehicle

Communication and Outreach:

  • Maintain visibility and availability to students in corridors and common areas.
  • Communicate regularly with domestic & international staff through WeChat with event updates photos and flyers.

Customer Service:

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate the expectations of a demanding client base (including parents and agencies abroad in China) while aligning student support with the retention and growth objectives of a missiondriven forprofit organization

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree required. Advanced degree (or in the process of getting an Advanced Degree) in Education or related discipline preferred.

Fluency in English and Mandarin.

Experience in education caring for high school aged children and/or prior experience as a senior Residential Life Coordinator Student Coordinator Resident Advisor or Student Events & Activities Coordinator in a dormitory or boarding school setting is preferred. The successful candidate will possess a lively and outgoing demeanor easily capable of forming connections with our students involving them in all of our activities and supporting their growth. Demonstrate excellent decisionmaking skills strong leadership qualities and possess sensitivity for the welfare of their international middle school and high school student residents.

Staff must undergo and pass a national criminal and sex offender background and driving record check. Must have a valid CT Drivers License 3 years driving experience and clean driving record. Must have own reliable transportation to/from office. Company vehicle use provided for work related activities.

Compensation & Benefits: FullTime Exempt Competitive Salary Offered Depends on Experience (DOE) Health Benefits (1st of the month after 60 Days of service) Paid Time Off (PTO) 401K (1st of the quarter after 1 year of service) free meals during working hours (Chinese cuisine).

Job Type: FullTime salaried exempt yearround including summers.

Office Hours: Sundays 9am5:30pm and MondayThursdays 12:30pm9pm*

*This position requires flexibility and additional availability on a periodic basis according to dormitory needs.


Work Location: Onsite/Residential Life Office APEX 101 Marshall Lane Derby CT. Preference given to candidates who live close to the dormitory in Derby CT. No LiveIn option available. No relocation package offered.
