Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Licensed Practical Nurse or LPN works under the supervision of the RN Team Leader. Functions within the team to provide total patient care. Assists the registered nurse in planning implementing and evaluating nursing care of assigned patients. Performs clinical procedures permitted within the scope of practice and in accordance with the policies of the Nursing Department. Promotes cooperation a positive attitude and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff. Responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures including all aspects of safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the RN Team Leader in utilizing the nursing process to provide patient care
- Keeps RN Team Leader informed regarding problems and needs of district
- Utilizes equipment and technology to implement nursing interventions and/or treatments according to Hospital practices and policies and procedures
- Recognizes changes in patients physical and psychosocial conditions and reports findings to RN
- Assists in evaluating the quality and outcome of patient care
- Provides care for patients undergoing clinical procedures
- Administers medication safely and within the scope of practice and established protocols
- Performs procedures related to diseases/conditions in accordance with established policies and procedures and within scope of practice
REQUIREMENTS EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current New York State Licensed Practical Nurse License
- BLS Certification from American Heart Association
- Excellent interpersonal telephone and computer skills
- Must possess ability to function independently
- Standing walking 90% of the time
- Lifting patients with or without assistance

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSHs good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Prior to start date the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
Successfully complete preemployment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospitals Employee Health Services*
Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references. - Successfully complete a 4panel drug screen*
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for preemployment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
