Position is funded in part through federal funds.

Position is located in Wayne County at WorkSource East Training Facility in Goldsboro NC. The primary purpose of this position is to prepare individuals with disabilities for employment by teaching a Carpentry/Woodworking curriculum assist in facilitating internship opportunities and development of appropriate work habits. Identify tasks and write training objectives for the Carpentry program. Provide training designed to improve workrelated behaviors and work skills.

Job responsibilities to include:

  • Teach basic carpentry skills including how to use tools and machinery in a carpentry shop
  • Adapt lessons to accommodate individual needs/disabilities
  • Evaluate student behavior and progress towards goals and document accordingly
  • Develop class objectives and create a variety of lessons and activities for students with various skill levels
  • Communicate regularly both orally and in written form with students and staff
  • Teach and comply with safety practices in the carpentry shop
  • Work with the rehab team to address specific student needs
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local carpentry/construction businesses

Qualified applicants must possess and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:


Management preferences will be given to candidates with:
  • Experience instructing or supervising others.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities.

Physical requirements:
  • Medium work such as exerting up to 50lbs of force occasionally including walking standing and climbing.
  • Visual acuity and dexterity to operate machinery.
  • Ability to hear at normal speaking levels with or without correction and the ability to convey spoken instructions.
  • Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associates degree from an appropriately accredited institution in an industrial systems technology area or a related field to the technical area assigned and two years of experience in production trades or related work that provides the above knowledge and skills;

OR

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of work experience in production trades or related work that provides the above knowledge and skills preferably providing exposure to the population to be served;

OR


An equivalent combination of education and experience.
