Stitcher Journeyman
Department:
Costume Department Costume Shop
Position Summary:
Being a part of the Costume Shop means working under the Costume Shop Supervisor to bring the Costume Design to life on stage in the middle of the gorgeous red rocks of Padre Canyon.
Our stitchers are responsible for completing all the costume alterations they are assigned so that all costumes have the fit and function desired. As a stitcher journeyman you are a valuable part of the team but it is understood that you may still be finding what methods/tricks work for you.
Required Skills:
- Demonstrated proficiency in sewing skills from machine to hand sewing techniques
- Demonstrated knowledge in theatrical construction and quick rigging techniques
- Proficient with shop equipment including domestic sewing machines sergers steam irons and cutting tools
- Proficient with or willing to learn shop equipment including industrial sewing machines coverlocks blind hemmer etc.
- Ability to collaborate with the costume team to efficiently complete assigned projects
- Ability to lift 20 lbs
- Ability to work with performers and staff in a positive and professional manner while on campus at all times
- Ability to listen take instruction and to participate in a team to complete the assigned tasks
- Clean and maintain all spaces daily
- Ability to work outside in a desert climate (though our build facilities are located indoors)
Required Qualifications:
- Within 1 year of graduating with BA/BFA OR between 12 years of sewing experience with no degree
- Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and maintain a safe work environment
