Job Description
Director of Finance
Location: Buffalo Area FullTime Onsite $120K$130K
Confidential client. Familyowned fastgrowing trades and service company.
About the Company
Our client is a $20M market leader in the plumbing HVAC and home services space. Familyrun regionally dominant and growing 20 year over year theyre known for their bold advertising presence strong reputation and modern leadership approach. With the exit of their fractional CFO and the phased transition of their longtime Controller theyre now hiring a Director of Finance to lead the charge into their next stage of growth.
Why This Role Exists
- The current fractional CFO is stepping away
- The existing Controller will remain parttime but is transitioning out
- The business needs a fulltime strategic finance leader to guide reporting structure analytics and decisionmaking

What Success Looks Like
3 months
- Build trust with the President and leadership team
- Understand operations and business drivers
- Stabilize financial reporting and cash flow visibility
6 months
- Own monthly reporting cycles and dashboards
- Improve joblevel margin tracking and financial KPIs
- Present financials clearly and confidently to leadership
12 months
- Become the Presidents goto finance partner
- Implement system improvements across QuickBooks and ServiceTitan
- Fully take on Controllerlevel responsibilities as needed
Top 3 Priorities
- Build advanced financial reporting and dashboards to track cash flow joblevel profitability and KPIs
- Provide clear strategic insight and act as a strong counterbalance to a highly analytical datadriven President
- Lead the finance function and integrate seamlessly with a capable efficient and youthful leadership team
What Youll Do
- Lead FP and amp;A budgeting forecasting and monthly reporting
- Manage payroll processes and oversee AP AR and cash flow
- Maintain and optimize QuickBooks Online and ServiceTitan reporting modules
- Support vendor spend insurance review fleet costs and banking relationships
- Present financial results and insights to executives and department heads
- Guide internal controls close cycles and tax preparation with external accountants
What Were Looking For
- Current or former Controller Finance Manager or Director of Finance from a $10M$50M business
- Experience in a familyowned or founderled business is highly preferred
- Strong analytical and reporting capabilities
- Systems experience: QuickBooks Online Excel or Google Sheets (advanced) ServiceTitan preferred
- Ability to influence advise and redirect when needed without conflict
- Excellent communication and emotional intelligence
Bonus Points For
- Background in plumbing HVAC electrical contracting construction or trades
- Experience navigating family dynamics in a closely held business
- Building dashboards KPIs and operational visibility tools from the ground up
Compensation and Logistics
- Base Salary: $120000 to $130000 (some flexibility for top candidates)
- Onsite Role: 5 days per week at company headquarters in the Buffalo area
- Bonus/Incentives: To be discussed
