What you will be doing:
Join Alaska Public Healths Section of Epidemiology as a Public Health Data Analyst where youll manage the states reportable conditions database and the CDCs National Electronic Disease Surveillance System Base System. This role is vital for ensuring accurate data collection and analysis of outbreaks and infectious diseases in Alaska. Youll have opportunities to enhance your communication skills through media interactions as well as develop your skills in data analysis and writing. In addition youll secure and manage resources facilitate team training and drive strategic initiatives for modernization. The working environment you can expect:
This position is located in midtown Anchorage. Our offices overlook the Chugach Range and we have abundant parking available onsite in a covered parking garage. Work is primarily based in an office setting although occasional travel may be required to support an outbreak team in the field. Hybrid telework may be a possibility for the right person.

Who we are looking for:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following positionspecific competencies:
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical systematic sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on ones knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Data Management: Knowledge of the principles procedures and tools of data management such as modeling techniques data backup data recovery data dictionaries data warehousing data mining data archiving data disposal and data standardization processes.
  • Public Health: Applies knowledge of the concepts principles theories methods and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities including promoting healthy lifestyles researching disease and/or injury prevention and/or detecting preventing and responding to infectious diseases.
  • Supervision: Plans distributes and monitors work assignments; sets task priorities; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensures that staff are appropriately selected utilized and developed and that they are treated in a fair and equitable manner. Assignments include the authority and responsibility to recommend or independently take action to employ (i.e. appoint transfer promote) discipline or discharge or adjudicate grievances of direct reports.
  • Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive onthejob experience to perform ones job; works with understands and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.

Qualifications

A PhD from an accredited college in biostatistics/statistics epidemiology public health nursing health sciences health administration public health community health emergency medical services psychology the social sciences the biological sciences the physical sciences social work computer sciences or a closely related field;
