Job Description

Position Title:

StudentAthlete Development Specialist

Job Group:

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and 2 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of the studentathlete experience.
Experience with programming to support the studentathlete transition into and out of college (career coaching life skills civic responsibility service learning).
Experience coordinating teaching and leading classes and/or workshops to groups.
Experience working with Canvas Teams Teamworks and Canva.

If so the Athletics Department at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a StudentAthlete Development Specialist (student services specialist II). The position plays a vital role in providing programming and services to studentathletes that fall within the StudentAthlete Development pillars: Connection Character Enhancement Civic Engagement and Career Readiness in preparation for life after college athletics.

What youll do:

  • Assist Director in delivering programs to studentathletes to include personal development life skills community service and career exploration; evaluating effectiveness of programs; and providing a memorable experience for our studentathletes.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders including but not limited to studentathletes coaches campus athletic alumni donors and local and national communities.
  • Involved in the development of curriculum forthe University Studies courses coteach those courses and plan organize andlead various workshops.
  • Lead or colead the StudentAthlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
  • Stay current on best practices trends and research in studentdevelopment athletics and higher education to inform programmatic efforts.
  • Responsible for adhering to the rules and regulations of the department University Conference andNCAA

The successful candidate must possess good programming and problemsolving skills strong communication skills and the ability to develop relationships with stakeholders. This position requires the ability to meet with studentathletes outside regular office hours including some evening and weekend meetings/events. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse studentathlete body.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Intermediatelevel position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
Applies broad working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex difficult and varied problems and issues
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
May provide training and/or direction to lowerlevel staff
May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
Provides guidance to students

As an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision athletics program and a founding member of the Big 12 Conference Iowa State University sponsors 18 intercollegiate athletics teams and supports 450 studentathletes in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence. ISU Athletics employs over 250 talented and dedicated fulltime staff members more than 500 temporary and student employees and multiple auxiliary partners who collaboratively work within a culture to support and enhance the experiences of Cyclone studentathletes and their loyal fan base. Iowa State studentathletes have produced 10consecutive years of recordsetting Graduation Success Rate scores in the classroom while athletically the Cyclones have captured 19 national team championships 140 national individual titles and 162 conference team championships in its rich history.
