QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Education with experience in Intermediate and/or Secondary Education
- Recent experience teaching secondary Math English Art and Outdoor Education at a senior level;
- Experience planning and delivering mental health and wellness programming for equity deserving yout
- Experience and ability to deliver art programming that engages different students interests including photography beading/sewing oil painting and other visual arts.
- Recent experience working in an alternative selfpaced selfdirected learning environment and implementing small group and individualized instructional process;
- Recent experience adapting modifying and implementing curriculum to meet the unique learning needs of a diverse student population;
- Experience working with First Nations students and integrating First Nations ways of knowing and doing into programming;
- Experience collaborating with colleagues in a teamteaching setting and connecting students to community resources employment training opportunities and appropriate programming.
- Experience working with young parents and building flexible academic plans connecting these students to health care providers and community agencies as needed.
- Recent experience in developing individualized grad plans and understanding the paths to graduation; Experience delivering programming through Moodle introducing current technology into lesson plans and having strong I.T. skills.
- Experience and/or training in a Trauma Informed Approach Yukon First Nations 101; Mental Health First Aid is an asset.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their
- A philosophy of inclusive education; excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills to work closely with students staff parents/caregivers consultants and community agencies in meeting the social emotional and academic needs of all students;
- Knowledge of the Calls to Action in Education by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and understanding of the past and current issues experienced by First Nations students.
- Awareness and appreciation of the need to create an inclusive learning environment for a diverse group of students;
- Strong background and knowledge in current assessment pedagogy and practices;
- Strong planning organizational and documenting skills;
- Ability to work as a member of a professional team and a willingness to participate in the total school program to promote support and contribute to the overall school goals and initiatives;
- Ability to adapt modify and implement curriculum to meet each students need;
- Ability to use technology to increase engagement and enhance student learning;
- Ability to work collaboratively with a small staff in an open classroom and a flexible time schedule;
- Ability to design and implement land based and culturally relevant programming;
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
- Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process here
- Yukon First Nations 101 to be completed at your first opportunity.
- Completing of the Safer School Student Protection Staff Training and familiar with the Policy and Procedures of willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Class IV Drivers License or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- To be a Teacher in Yukon you must be certified in another Canadian province/territory first.
