Job Description


Maul Foster & Alongi Inc. (MFA) is hiring a Staff Environmental Planner to join our thoughtful collaborative team. If youre curious about how environmental policy and land use shape the places we live work and play and want to be part of the team making that happen wed love to hear from you.


As a Staff Environmental Planner you will...

have the opportunity to support a wide range of projects from permitting strategies and regulatory research to environmental review. Youll work closely with project managers and technical staff across disciplines gaining exposure to everything from NEPA/SEPA processes to shoreline and growth management regulations. In this role youll contribute to meaningful realworld work that connects policy with impact. One day you might help draft permit applications or write sections of environmental review documents; the next you could be researching local and state regulations organizing deliverables or participating in client and agency meetings. Throughout it all youll collaborate with scientists engineers and other planners while building your skills growing your confidence and deepening your understanding of how interdisciplinary teams solve complex challenges.


To thrive in this role you must have...

  • A bachelors degree in Environmental Science Urban Planning Natural Resources or a related field.
  • 2 years of relevant planning permitting or related experience
  • Clear and effective communication skills both written and verbal.
  • An understanding of or eagerness to learn about how land use policy and environmental regulations influence projects.
  • A strong sense of organization problem solving abilities and a collaborative work style.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Suite; familiarity with GIS or permitting tools is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications (not required)

  • Experience with NEPA/SEPA. Shoreline permitting or Oregon land use laws.
  • Interest in pursuing AICP certification.

Compensation Range: $71000 to $81000 a year
