The Payroll Specialist focuses on ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee compensation across Alberta British Columbia and Ontario. This role oversees payroll operations for diverse employee groups including several unions and shifts spanning from 8 to 24 hours per day. The dedicated payroll professional is equipped with meticulous attention to detail and indepth knowledge of provincial labor laws and will be instrumental in maintaining compliance and delivering seamless payroll services.
Payroll & Benefits is a proactive detailoriented professional entrusted with coordinating daily payroll and benefits components including status changes onboarding and offboarding. This role is instrumental in maintaining smooth and efficient processes that support our HRs payroll and benefits components. Working closely with the greater HR team and frontline stakeholders you will be responsible for maintaining compliance with company policies and procedures while delivering highquality service to employees. With a proactive solution focused approach the role emphasizes clear communication with stakeholders and a profound understanding of HR best practices while maintaining a steadfast commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
Schedule:
One (1) permanent fulltime position with a weekly schedule of 40 hours. Taproot may consider converting this position to parttime with a weekly schedule of 35 hours which will be discussed during an interview.

The position is currently scheduled to be based out of the Support Staff office in Maple Ridge BC and is open for a hybrid remote model which will be discussed during an interview.
Process biweekly semimonthly and monthly payroll for employees in Alberta British Columbia and Ontario ensuring accuracy and adherence to payroll deadlines.
Manage and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues promptly and effectively.
Coordinate with HR IT and Finance teams to ensure accurate employee data management in the HRIS (Human Resources Information System) and payroll systems.
Stay updated on provincial payroll legislation and labor laws in Alberta British Columbia and Ontario to ensure compliance.
Prepare and submit payrollrelated reports including tax filings WCB (Workers Compensation Board) reports and union dues calculations.
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters including pay discrepancies deductions and tax withholdings.
Support HR initiatives and programs related to payroll and benefits improvements and collective agreement changes.
Collaborate with the HRIS Specialist to resolve system issues and ensure seamless payroll processing.
Manage yearend payroll activities including preparation of T4s ROEs (Records of Employment) and other statutory reporting requirements.
Uphold high standards of customer service excellence in all interactions and deliverables
Coordinate and administer employee benefits programs such as health insurance dental and vision plans life insurance retirement plans pension and other voluntary benefits.
Coordinate open enrollment periods plan renewals contract premium updates ensuring compliance with payroll deadlines.
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding benefits coverage eligibility claims and related issues.
Collaborate with benefits providers and brokers to resolve issues and ensure accurate administration of benefits programs.
Verify and input employee data changes including new hires terminations salary adjustments and deductions.

35 years comprehensive working knowledge and understanding of Canadian payroll and benefits practices.
Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) or Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation or working towards one is considered a strong asset.
Strong knowledge of payroll processes policies and employment laws.
Experience working with unionized payroll is considered a strong asset.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
Proficiency in HRIS systems and MS Office (Word Excel Outlook).
Detailoriented and able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fastpaced environment.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion.
