Unison is the leading provider of differentiated engine controls accessories and performance monitoring solutions in the Aerospace Defense & Space segments. Serving both original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket customers Unison designs manufactures and supplies the most advanced components and systems in the world.
The Manufacturing Engineering role involves overseeing the manufacturing processes for industrial ball joints and surface coolers. This position significantly influences departmental operations and is responsible for planning and executing tasks. While the role offers a degree of autonomy it primarily focuses on carrying out activities within established functional practices and procedures. Independent judgment will be necessary though typically with some guidance. Additionally this role will provide backup support to the management team.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Strive to improve all aspects of Safety Quality Delivery & Cost.
- Define and control production process including tooling and equipment.
- Validate design specifications and shop floor application of new product tools or equipment.
- Design & implement necessary tooling & fixtures for manufacturing improvements.
- Create & maintain schedules to achieve project targets.
- Participate & Lead Root Cause & Corrective Action activity related to concerns that arise thru the manufacturing process.
- Listen to the voice on the floor understand the problem and implement effective countermeasures & assure sustainability.
- Collaborate with design engineering operations and quality to improve manufacturability and resolve issues.
- Drive continuous improvement activities for the team.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to employees and peers alike.
- Focus on tactical goals while not losing sight of strategic priorities.
- Develop solutions within a continuous improvement culture and team setting to achieve organizational goals.
- Engage peers and workforce to develop projects that impact the productivity of the team.
- Provide support to hourly team members and backup support to front line leader.
- Time allocation: manufacturing floor (70%) office (30%).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in Manufacturing Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical/Manufacturing Technology.)
Desired Characteristics
- 3 years of experience with Production Processes and Equipment.
- Strong oral/written communication interpersonal skills and leadership skills.
- Aerospace manufacturing experience including machining and welding.
- Automation particularly CNC and robotics project lead & experience.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
Additional Information
- Ability to work in an area where there is moderate noise intensity (85 to 89 dBa).
- Ability to work in an area where due to normal machining operations there may be dust fumes or smoke (not over OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels (PEL)).
- Ability to work extended hours when needed.
