JOB DEFINITION:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is to provide Psychiatric Assessments and medication management to children and adults experiencing a behavioral health crisis within a 24 hour per day 7 day per week to Crisis Stabilization Center.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Masters degree in advanced nursing practice in psychiatry from an accredited program.
- New York State license and registration as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry.
- Current DEA registration.
- Certification required in Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) (i.e. suboxone).
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Substantial clinical experience with the diagnosis and treatment of the entire spectrum of mental disorders in outpatient and/or inpatient settings. Experience will include management of seriously and persistently ill clients as well as those with psychiatric and cooccurring substance abuse disorders. Familiarity with current DSM criteria.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides psychiatric and substance abuse care and medication to appropriate clients applying standards of care consistent with good medical judgment and current practice in the psychiatric community. This can include the administration of intramuscular medication when appropriate.
- Provides psychiatric and substance abuse examination for the purpose of diagnostic evaluation determination of treatment needs and prognostic factors. This includes using all reasonable methods to detect the presence of danger to self or others and collaboration with the treatment team to implement appropriate precautions.
- Monitors the pharmacological effects of prescribed psychotropic medications and notifies the team of their reported effectiveness.
- Is available for consultation with staff regarding relevant issues in the client medical background and collaborates with appropriate professionals in the community to integrate agency treatment with overall medical care.
- Contributes to the timely production of all necessary reports to other agencies concerning clients who they have examined and/or treated.
- Prescribe for appropriate laboratory testing indicated in collaboration with the treating physician and/or conducts any other relevant studies or tests. Implements any followup needed.
- Efficiently uses time management skills to maximize availability for direct client contact.
- Collaborates with other members of the treatment team in providing
- integrated care. This may include appropriate outreach when indicated.
- Establishes and maintains appropriate and timely clinical case records including but not limited to treatment plans progress notes and treatment plan reviews documenting appropriate therapeutic intervention with each client to the Agency funding licensing and billing authorities.
- Works as part of the ICSC team; attends and participates in team meetings to provide input/feedback around psychosocial conditions/comorbidities to review client status update plans and goals review outcomes to further program goals.
- Assist the program to provide crisis intervention and followup on an asneeded basis 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Including shared on call responsibility with other PNP.
- Facilitate sharing of data with the individuals to whom it applies to facilitate partnered decisionmaking and to keep clients informed of progress
- Complete QI Training during onboarding and participate in QI refresher training as needed.
