POSITION TITLE: LEAD CUSTODIAN I
SALARY RANGE: $20.93 $30.98
SALARY GRADE: Maximus Grade: 6
POSITION PURPOSE:
- Under the direct supervision of the Custodial Manager as well as directed by the building Principal and Director of Facilities as needed The Lead Custodian I supports the Custodial Manager by providing directional guidance for custodian work needs and building operation needs during assigned shifts.
- The Lead Custodian I is an essential role in maintaining the building and physical plant and supporting a learning environment that promotes health attitude and pride of students.
- The Lead Custodian I also actively performs custodial duties during shifts to ensure building operations continue in a supportive and learning environment.
- The Lead Custodian I also should display a professional and courteous attitude of professionalism. Provides support and works closely with building administration during day and evening activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (examples of): The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or allinclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Performs custodial duties and maintains cleanliness of the building such as: Sweeps mops vacuums scrubs and refinishes floors; clean and dust furniture and horizontal surfaces; wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; dispose of rubbish change lights and other custodial related duties to ensure a safe and sanitary environment as needed.
- Makes certain all areas of the building are kept in a clean sanitary and orderly condition according to district standards.
- Pick up litter within the schools and on school grounds.
- Assures safety during inclement weather to including shoveling salting providing slip protection on wet floors securing against wind damage snow removal from roofs and other weather safety related duties as needed.
- Applies cleaning and disinfecting chemicals according to established safety procedures.
- Adheres to safety measures for cleaning lifting moving furniture and equipment and operating district equipment.
- Performs minor paint repair and maintenance as authorized by both the Custodial Manager and district maintenance staff based on trade.
- Coordinates with the Custodial Manager in initiating and monitoring work order requests for the building according to district procedures. Followsthrough to assure that maintenance is performed in a timely manner. Notifies Custodial Manager of overdue and undone work requests. Enters work order requests received by building staff.
- Assists Custodial Manager in maintaining inventory and requesting cleaning supplies and materials needed to accomplish assigned tasks. Secures delivery and storage of equipment and supplies and protects against pilferage loss theft or abuse.
- Maintains awareness of energy conservation for the building and makes suggestions to the Custodial Manager of methods and procedures to consider energy savings.
- Periodically inspects or otherwise maintains awareness of facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage. Maintains timely inspections and provides reports to supervisor and administration regarding assigned building(s) readiness planning and completion related to all building facility needs.
- In conjunction with the Director of Facilities maintains control of spare keys for the facility and distribute as directed.
- Secures school building to ensure proper building security at all times.
- Verifies that emergency and custodial equipment is maintained and repaired as needed.
- Performs replacement of air filters and maintains adequate filter inventory.
- Provides direction feedback and guidance that will enable custodial staff to perform their job requirements as directed by both the building administrators and Custodial Manager.
- Advises Custodial Manager and building principal on matters relating to mechanical equipment and/or building maintenance.
- Performs Ground Maintenance. Mows lawns trims removes and cuts branches and other ground maintenance duties.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned by the Custodial Manager or Director of Facilities.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Connecticut Motor
- High School education or equivalent
- Motor Vehicle Operators License.
- Experience in the education field and knowledge of the school system custodial functions.
- 35 years of increasingly responsible custodial experience.
- Proficient in the use of email work order system software district mandates software and any other applicable programs used for the position.
