Chief Information Officer
The Waterloo Catholic District School Board serves over 38000 learners and provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12 and adult learners) across the Waterloo Region.

General Description of Duties:
Reporting to the Executive Superintendent of Corporate Services the incumbent in this challenging position will be responsible for a diverse portfolio of responsibilities which support student and system needs. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating IT Governance committees focused on data management and reporting end user support privacy and cyber security classroom technology and communications (social media and website) with a goal of receiving strategic advice from each committee on the needs and priorities of the system as relates to information technology
- Creating a multiyear strategic IT plan in alignment with the WCDSB multiyear strategic plan to communicate the departments vision priorities and goals which drive resource requirements infrastructure renewal project planning and budgets
- Setting standards for hardware and software and managing a complex budget for renewal and maintenance of the same
- Supporting IT team leaders to ensure department plans are achieved and organizational structures are optimized
- Monitoring service levels and soliciting feedback from stakeholders on a regular basis to ensure needs
are met
- Publishing leading and lagging IT indicators to demonstrate effective resource stewardship
- Serving as a mentor and coach to IT staff and others within the organization
- Preparing and presenting reports to a variety of groups including senior management elected officials school administrators support staff community leaders professional colleagues and others as required
- Participating in meetings of senior management to ensure work is coordinated and system level plans and initiatives are wellinformed
- Ensuring the IT team receives access to professional development opportunities to ensure their skillsets are current and meet professional expectations
- Being a subject matter expert in cyber security strategy and ensuring common frameworks and standards such as those specified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) are used to manage information and privacy risk and for strategic decisionmaking
- Maintaining and leading regular testing of the IT Disaster Recovery and Incident Response plans
- Supporting the work of the Privacy Records and Information Management Officer including freedom of information requests records retention compliance with relevant legislation such as the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and working with the office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner when required
- Creating managing and updating administrative procedures relevant to IT
- Participating as an active member of the Ontario Association of School Business Officials IT Committee (OASBO ICT)
- Implementing recommendations made by auditors within timelines specified
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements: - Post Secondary Degree in Computer Science Information Technology or another related field
- 7 or more years of experience in a managerial role with similar responsibilities
- Proficiency in a range of computer applications including Microsoft 365 apps
- Candidate must demonstrate an advanced ability to collaborate with others to achieve system goals
- Excellent leadership communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills
Desirable Assets: - Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) designation
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation
- Diploma in School Board Administration (University of Guelph)
- Certificate in School Board Information and Communication Technology Management (University of Guelph)
- Experience with an Ontario school board or similar complex public sector employer
Salary Range: $164542 $175026 annually
Hours of Work : This position is 35 hours per week with the requirement to be available outside of normal office hours. Additionally this position will be required to attend meetings outside of normal office hours (e.g. Board meetings other events that are related to the portfolio).
