The Department
The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including; Medical Oncology Clinical Haematology Bone Marrow Transplant Apheresis Statewide Haemophilia Service Radiation Oncology Clinical Trials Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. The Alfred Health Clinical Haematology service offers a multidisciplinary setting for the diagnosis treatment and followup of the entire range of haematological diseases.
The Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced registered nurse who has acquired the expert knowledge base complex decision making skills and clinical competencies for expanded practice in Haematology. The Haematology Nurse Practitioner (NP) with a subspeciality of Bone Marrow Transplant or NP Candidate is an integral member of the Malignant Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation Service who practices autonomously but in collaboration with other health professionals to assess and manage haematology (predominantly transplant) patients using nursing knowledge and skills. The NP or NP Candidate is engaged in clinical education mentorship and professional activities to assist the development of extensions to practice include prescription of medications and at least one of the following; ordering diagnostic investigations direct referral to other health care professionals the ability to admit and discharge patients and/or provision of absence from work certificates.
