Job Description

Job Summary

Provide leadership in advancing continuous improvement and cultural transformation across the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center. Facilitate Leanbased training coaches leaders and frontline staff and support departmental and crossfunctional initiatives aligned with organizational priorities and value streams. Mentor internal Transformation Coaches lead performance improvement events and apply high reliability principles to drive innovation operational excellence and sustainable change. Work is performed under limited supervision. Direct report to the Director of Transformation

 

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.

  • Deliver Continuous Learning for Improvement (CLI) training programs for leaders frontline staff and internal coaches. Provide handson coaching in Lean methodology problemsolving and leadership behaviors that support a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Plan lead and support improvement events such as Rapid Process Improvement Workshops (RPIWs) Kaizen events and Value Stream Analyses (VSAs). Use structured tools such as A3 thinking and 5S to identify root causes reduce waste and improve workflows.
  • Support the development and effectiveness of trained Transformation Coaches by providing guidance on project design facilitation techniques scope definition and implementation planning.
  • Support both local departmentlevel and systemwide improvement initiatives. Align projects with hospital and system strategic goals ensuring integration of True North principles and the UMMS Value Delivery System.
  • Apply high reliability organization (HRO) principles to all transformation efforts. Ensure that safety quality and operational risks are proactively identified and mitigated through standard work and datadriven decisionmaking.
  • Develop and implement tools to measure baseline and postevent performance. Use analytics to evaluate trends identify opportunities and ensure sustainment of improvements including dashboards and ROI tracking.
  • Create test and implement standard work documents for processes including improvement methodology and coaching approaches. Facilitate knowledge sharing of best practices across departments and teams.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and internal consultant. Build collaborative relationships with clinical operational and administrative leaders to foster engagement and drive successful outcomes.
  • Structure and manage improvement project plans timelines milestones and deliverables. Coordinate resources schedule meetings track progress and escalate barriers as needed to ensure project success.
  • Model and reinforce behaviors that support learning innovation and teamwork. Help leaders and staff recognize and act on opportunities for improvement in daily work.
  • Prepare and deliver clear compelling presentations and reports for frontline staff leadership and executive teams. Share success stories and lessons learned through internal publications or forums.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Health Care Administration Nursing Business Administration or related field or the equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience leading performance improvement and transformation efforts in a healthcare consulting or similarly complex environment.
  • Experience applying structured problemsolving methodologies such as A3 Thinking Root Cause Analysis and PlanDoStudyAct (PDSA) cycles in realworld settings.
  • Experience developing and facilitating training curricula and workshops.
  • Demonstrated success in designing facilitating and leading Leanbased improvement events (e.g. RPIWs Kaizen Value Stream Mapping) with measurable outcomes in quality safety efficiency or patient experience.
  • Recognized success as a change agent skilled at driving continuous improvement initiatives across diverse departments and navigating varying organizational cultures.
  • Lean or Toyota Production System training.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification upon hire or ability to obtain within one year from the date of hire.
