International Health and Medical Serivces is looking for an experienced Advanced Practice Provider to deliver highquality medical care including assessments diagnosis and treatment planning for detainees with a variety of health concerns. This role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care patient advocacy and adherence to regulatory standards within the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- A physician assistant or nurse practitioner who practices in conformance with established criteria guidelines and agency procedures. Efforts are directed toward the enhancement of the physical emotional and social wellbeing of individuals.
- Provides health care of a scope quality and quantity consistent with agency and policies.
- Performs comprehensive history and physical evaluations behavioral health care and minor outpatient surgical procedures for detainees as required by IHSC policy or as required for detainee medical complaint.
- Coordinates health care needs of detainees including referrals to offsite consultants.
- Takes appropriate infection control actions in accordance with IHSC policy and guidance.
- Completes all training as required/assigned.
- Attends onsite regional and national meetings as required.
- Participates in the APP Peer Review process.
- Provides direct care to detainees via scheduled appointments emergency or urgent care visits.
- Consults with the physician / Clinical Director for complex medical and/or psychiatric patients and as required by IHSC policy.
- Provides infirmary care including admission discharge and daily rounds for detainees that require higher levels of medical care or monitoring.
- Works within and performs functions as outlined in the IHSC Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Scope of Practice and the Controlled Prescribing Scope of Practice for APPs.
- Applies knowledge of and therapeutics when prescribing medication.
- Interprets diagnostic and laboratory results.
- Interprets Tuberculin skin tests (TSTs) and diagnostic studies manages Direct Observation Therapy (DOT) for treatment of active or latent tuberculosis.
- Adheres to universal precautions and properly disposes of all sharps.
- May serve as medical escort of detainees as needed for domestic/overseas travel.
- Utilizes and documents interpretation and/or translation and/or assisted communication services as needed to ensure ability to communicate with detainees or others who are Limited English Proficient (LEP) or have a communication disability or impediment.
- Maintains flexibility and adaptability to sudden changes in schedules and work requirements.
- Provides relevant patient health education to detainees verbally and/or with handouts.
- Documents detainee care visits in the required health record using required format in compliance with IHSC policy and guidance.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and confidentiality of medical records.
- Completes all training as required/assigned.
- Serves as Acting Senior Supervisory APP or Acting Regional APP.
- Facilitates and mentors APP onboarding and training.

Qualifications :
Basic Requirements/Certifications:
Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in correctional health care
- Knowledge and/or experience with IHSC policies NCCHC and PBNDS requirements.
- Knowledge of public health preparedness infection control and TB management
- ACLS certification.
Physical Requirements:
- This position is considered hazardous duty in a detention setting.
- Required to walk unaided at a normal pace for up to 5 minutes and maintain balance.
- Required to jog/fast walk up to mile.
- Requires physical exertion such as lifting objects greater than 30 pounds.
- Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.
- Must have the ability to assist sick injured or aging detainees or staff exiting the building (may require lifting dragging wheeling or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self).
- Must be able to see hear and smell with aids if necessary.
- Must be able to lift push or carry 30 pounds.
- Must perform the duties of my job in a stressful and often austere environment without physical limitations.
- Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
- Average manual dexterity for computer operation.
- Phone or computer use for extended periods of time.
Other Special Qualifications:
- Minimum of 21 years of age.
- Must maintain current/physical residency in the continental U.S.
- Pass a medical examination conducted by a licensed physician within 30 days prior to initial assignment.
- Be a U.S. citizen or a person lawfully admitted into the U.S. for permanent residence.
- Have resided in the U.S. for the last five years (unless abroad on official U.S. government duty).
- Successfully engage in and complete a thorough Background Investigation.
- Poses or have ability to obtain required security clearances.
- Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
Additional Information :
Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicants background experience skills internal equity and alignment with geographical market data.
