Job Description

Mechanic Heavy Duty Journeyman Lead

Vehicle Maintenance 549 N Stapley

Base Rate:

$30.43

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New hire experience:

1 of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement up to atenyear maximum

New hire education:

1 of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Class/Calendar:

C51 12 months

Hours:

Fulltime 40 hours per week)

OVERVIEW:

To oversee the daily operation of vehicle maintenance facility; to assign work activities to assigned personnel; to ensure quality maintenance and availability of district vehicles in safe operating condition.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School education or equivalent; ASE certified preferred
  • Valid or ability to obtain Arizona CDL class A drivers license and vehicle emissions license
  • Five years mechanical with minimum three years diesel experience
  • Skills and experience of journeyman mechanic; proficient in diagnostic testing equipment of automotive and maintenance shops
  • Significant supervisory experience required with proven ability to work with and to lead others
  • Ability to work outside in either heat or cold; to lift and/or move 75 pounds
  • Ability to operate vehicle maintenance repair facility equipment (i.e. brake drum lathe Sun Diagnostic)
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and to establish and to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to work overtime and to change schedules with minimal notice; willingness to work nonregular hours (weekends night shift swing shift holidays)
  • Willingness to pursue educational goals to maintain basic job skills
  • Working knowledge of computer usage to generate work orders

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise the work activities of assigned personnel and the daily operation of assigned facility
  • Assign work activities of assigned personnel; monitor progress and check completed jobs to ensure quality maintenance
  • Receive discrepancy reports log repairs and generate shop work orders on computerized system
  • Schedule work assignments to utilize efficient and effective use of assigned personnel vehicles and facilities
  • Perform essential duties required of Heavy Duty Mechanic J
  • Inspect diagnose and make minor repairs on district vehicles (i.e. buses automobiles vans and trucks)
  • Lubricate adjust and service equipment
  • Estimate time and cost repairs to equipment
  • Check buses for safety conformance and compliance
  • Ensure shop area is maintained and free from hazards and safe work practices as followed
  • Regular and ontime attendance required
  • Perform required paperwork and record keeping in a timely neat and legible manner

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Make service calls for emergency repairs and operate light and heavy duty towing equipment for vehicle recovery
  • Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities

Supervisor Vehicle Maintenance

Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Transportation. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.
