Purpose:To provide leadership in the planning implementation and evaluation of special education services as assigned; including program development curriculum teaching techniques instructional arrangements special materials and supplementary aids and services aimed at improving the provision of services in the Least Restrictive Environment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Masters degree in education or a related field required
- Special Education Certification
- Valid Principal MidManagement or Supervision Certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of federal and state special education rules and regulations
- Knowledge of specially designed instruction
- Effective communication human relations and leadership skills
- Proficient in the use of digital tools including Google Suite Microsoft 365 ARD/IEP Software and Learning Management Systems
Experience:
- Five 5 years of successful experience working in special education
- Experience in special education leadership preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management
- Oversee special education services as assigned including problem solving with campus staff regarding researchbased strategies for special education including inclusion models differentiated instruction universal design and high yield strategies to improve outcomes for students with disabilities.
- Provide leadership in providing quality instruction in the least restrictive environment including the use of the learning management system implementation of software interventions and digital supports and accommodations.
- Observe specially designed instruction and provide feedback and recommendations to teachers and administrators to improve the quality of instruction.
- Collect analyze and interpret campus and district data for students served in special education settings.
- Provide guidance and support to campuses regarding compliance with special education laws and regulations including timeline and documentation expectations Manifestation Determination Review and removals of students with disabilities.
- Provide guidance and support to campus staff and Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committees in using appropriate decisionmaking frameworks to determine appropriate educational recommendations for students.
- Use a thorough understanding of the general education curriculum to train and support teachers in creating and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Serve as a consultant to special education teachers in curriculum and/or classroom management matters to recommend appropriate teaching strategies.
- Design and deliver effective professional development for special education teachers general education teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. parents teachers administrators etc. to resolve issues and provide information and/or direction.
- Continuously develop professional knowledge and skills related to special education program development and implementation instructional strategies and materials through participation in workshops conferences etc.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise and evaluate the performance of central teachers/therapists and paraprofessionals as assigned by the Director of Special Education in accordance with Board Policy and Procedures.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of Professional Supervisor Personnel.
