Duties And Responsibilities
Patient screening procedures; such as assessment of oral health conditions review of the health history oral cancer screening head and neck inspection dental charting and taking blood pressure and pulse. Taking and processing dental radiographs (xrays). Removing calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth. Applying preventive materials to the teeth (e.g. sealants and fluorides). Practicing aseptic technique according to CDC guidelines in dental healthcare settings including but not limited to: Preventing occupational transmission of bloodborne pathogens. Proper use of hand hygiene protective equipment and disposable barriers. Sterilization and disinfection of patientcare items. Dental unit waterlines biofilms water quality handpieces and other items that connect to air/waterlines. Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (e.g. tooth brushing flossing and nutritional counseling). Counseling patients about good nutrition and its impact on oral health.
Physical Demands
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens (employees are provided with training and equipment that complies with OSHA requirements for a dental health care setting). To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.
