Job Description

Duties And Responsibilities
The primary duties of this position will involve: Supervise four seasonal recreation assistants who will contact anglers to determine fishing pressure catch and harvest statistics and angler preferences as well as assisting with other means of quantifying overall recreational use on the five rivers (e.g. instantaneous user counts intercept surveys and other data collection). Assist with the duties of their staff when scheduling conflicts arise. Enter and manage data collected by the recreation assistants in coordination with Montana State University and Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks FWP staff. Offseason duties may entail angler interviews and instantaneous user counts as well as data management to help maximize efficiency of the graduate student research. As a nonlaw enforcement officer applicants will need to communicate effectively with their supervisor or law enforcement when situations arise that need to involve additional staff or when their safety or other visitors safety becomes a concern. Involvement with other aspects of the graduate research on these rivers (e.g. fish sampling) may be required. Applicants should expect to be knowledgeable and provide support to the public with interpretation of recreation rules and regulations provide recreation information to the public and answer the publics questions related to outdoor recreation in the area. The position will be based at the FWP office in Bozeman but requires frequent trips to field sites which may require a 2hour drive. This position is contingent upon continued grant funding.

Physical Demands
This position provides general operational support for research along several river corridors. Work schedule will be based on a randomized sampling approach that will include weekends early mornings or late evenings and holidays likely outside of normal business hours not to exceed 40 hours per week. The candidate will frequently work in adverse conditions including temperature extremes snow and rain dust high temperatures and wind. This position is contingent upon continued grant funding. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.
