Position
Global Energy Monitor is seeking an experienced Researcher with Russian/English fluency to join our Oil & Gas team.
The Oil & Gas teams research program focuses on producing global datasets that reflect current and future gasfired power plants oil and gas resources and their development crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGL) transmission pipeline projects and their development and natural gas transmission pipeline projects and their development.
Candidates must be based in the United States.

Global Energy Monitor is creating trackers and other tools to provide detailed information on energy facilities sponsors and financing.
About Global Energy Monitor
Global Energy Monitor (GEM) is a network of researchers developing information for the worldwide climate and clean energy movement. Since the organizations founding in 2007 GEMs research has become an essential tool for activists journalists policymakers and scientists. GEMs data and reports are used and cited by organizations ranging from Greenpeace to The Wall Street Journal. GEMs information is used by Bloomberg Terminals the International Energy Agency the IPCC Climate Analytics Carbon Tracker Initiative and hundreds of others.
Location
Candidates must be based in the United States. GEM does not have a central office; instead GEM works with employees to create suitable home offices catered to the needs of their role.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Gathering and vetting qualitative and quantitative assetlevel energy data via opensource methods; contributing to shared datasets.
- Creating formatting and updating wiki pages on energy projects on the platform.
- Assessing the environmental and social impacts of energy projects.
- Researching oil & gas projects in Russia and other regions.
- Collaborating with other GEM staff members across different project areas.
- Using software and computers such as word processing spreadsheets databases and operating systems.
- Supporting report development and analyses as well as presentations based on GEMs data.
- Translation of original source materials.
- Miscellaneous support for other GEM projects as needed.
Required Qualifications

The following experience and skills are required for this position:
- At least one year of experience in energy/environmental/heavy industry decarbonization research.
- Fluency in English and Russian.
Preferred Qualifications
- An ideal candidate would have experience using GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS) and working with geospatial data (shapefiles GeoJSON files etc.. Experience writing and working with code (e.g. Python or R) is also a plus. These skills can also be taught on the job as long as the candidate shows a willingness to learn and grow their technical expertise.
- Knowledge of environmental and social impacts of energy and/or heavy industry governmental and business institutional structures and the global political context of energy/heavy industry.
- Understanding of industry and energy transition issues and/or relevant technical background.
- Strong research skills including attention to detail scrupulous adherence to documented facts and resourcefulness in using online search tools.
- Analytical skills including experience in summarizing and presenting data.
- Professional writing skills.
- Knowledge of wiki formatting.
- Track record of working to advance social and environmental justice.
- Multilingual fluency.
Pay and Benefits
This is a fulltime 40hourperweek workfromhome position. The pay rate is $39.47 per hour.
