University of Iowa Health CaresJoint Office for Compliance (JOC) seeks aSenior Compliance Coordinator Education and Special Project to develop and deliver educational material related to coding and documentation in accordance with internal policies and guidelines federal rules and regulations and other rules that govern correct coding. Additionally this role assists in coding/billing policy and guideline creation and other special projects as needed.
Hybrid within Iowa:Following an onsite training periodthis position is eligible for a combination of oncampus and remote work. Remote work must be performedwithin Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with theremote work program and related policiesandemployee travel policy when working at a remote location
Position Responsibilities:
- Develop educational materials for coders providers administration and other staff to assist in compliant coding and documentation.
- Develop and conduct educational sessions related to coding documentation and regulatory guidelines. Sessions may be individual group in person or on demand.
- Serves as a resource to JOC auditors Health Information Management Professional Coding Division noncentralized coders clinical department administration Patient Financial Services Finance and Accounting Information Systems health care providers and others.
- Develop coding and billing related policies and guidelines based on risk audit trends coding changes and federal rules and regulations.
- Review clinical policies guidelines and protocols as it pertains to appropriateness with coding and billing guidelines medical necessity and other regulatory requirements.
- Research audit and provide education related to noncore services such as DME home health hospice and other compliance related topics.
- Perform or assist with auditing that may include ICD10CM/PCS CPT/HCPCS coding and DRG assignment.
- Assist Risk Audit and Investigation supervisors with unit quality checks.
- Maintain units SOP documents.
Required:
- A Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Certification as RHIT RHIA CPC or equivalent through a nationally recognized credentialing body such as AHIMA or AAPC.
- 25 years of coding experience (inpatient outpatient professional hospital or a combination).
- Considerable knowledge of various coding systems used by hospitals and physicians including ICD9CM ICD10CM/PCS CPT HCPCS.
- Excellent written and verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient in computer software applications.
- Adaptability creative problem solving project management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of team dynamics and skilled in building consensus. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
Desired:
- 13 years of experience in coding education and training
- Strong knowledge of compliance as it relates to a teaching environment.
- Knowledge of hospital inpatient outpatient and professional billing concepts which includes Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Groups (MSDRG) Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC)/Ambulatory Patient Groups (APG) Resource Based Relative Value Scale (RBRV) and additional managed care and capitated arrangements.
- Experience with auditing summarizing and discussing medical coding findings with providers.
- Knowledge of computer systems such as coding encoders Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) analyzers and computerassisted coding.
- Knowledge of various payor billing requirements as well as billing rules and regulations for Medicare Medicaid and other federal payor plans.
- Knowledge of University policies procedures and regulations.
