Santa Fe South West Middle School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Reading Foundations Teacher to support struggling readers in grades 68. This teacher will provide targeted smallgroup instruction (approximately 15 students per class) designed to build critical foundational reading skillsincluding phonemic awareness phonics fluency vocabulary and comprehension. This support supplements students core ELA instruction and is essential in closing gaps and helping students access gradelevel content.
We are looking for a candidate who is deeply familiar with the science of reading ideally with training in LETRS or other structured literacy approaches.
Provide direct smallgroup instruction to middle school students identified as needing foundational reading support
Use evidencebased practices aligned with the science of reading to design and deliver daily lessons
Assess student progress regularly using both formative and summative tools and adjust instruction accordingly
Collaborate with ELA teachers academic team members and school leadership to align reading support with classroom instruction
Maintain clear and consistent communication with families and instructional staff
Foster a positive inclusive and academically supportive classroom culture
Participate in schoolwide events professional development and the ongoing work of building a joyful and effective school community
A passion for literacy and a belief in every students ability to grow as a reader
Experience working with struggling readers especially in grades 58
Knowledge of structured literacy and the science of reading
LETRS training or certification (preferred but not required)
Strong classroom management and smallgroup instructional skills
A growth mindset flexibility and commitment to continuous improvement
A collaborative spirit and desire to contribute to schoolwide literacy efforts
Bachelors degree in Education Reading or a related field
Reading Specialist certification or endorsement (preferred but not required)
Bilingual (English/Spanish) abilities are a plus
