JOB SUMMARY
Identifies problems and solutions to minimize or eliminate hazards that may harm the environment and the population. Inspects and monitors environmental health and safety conditions. Coordinates and implements health and safety programs. Enforces public and environmental health laws and regulations.
This position resides in the Environmental Health Division Food Protection Bureau. Job responsibilities include conducting regulatory inspections of food establishment businesses conducting complaint investigations and performing new establishment plan reviews. Other job assignments include regulatory inspections of temporary mass gathering events foodborne illness investigations and mobile food establishment regulation. This job may also be assigned to other environmental health programs including but not limited to public swimming pools schools body art cosmetology massage therapy tanning and public lodging establishments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Grade 14:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Health or a related area of study as required for Environmental Health Scientist licensure plus must become licensed as an Environmental Health Scientistintraining in the State of Utah within sixty 60 days of the date of hire and must become licensed as an Environmental Health Scientist within one 1 year of the date of hire.
Grade 15:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Health or a related area of study as required for Environmental Health Scientist licensure and current Licensure in the State of Utah as an Environmental Health Scientist.
Transcripts for all degrees are required to confirm applicant meets licensure requirement. to the nature of this position the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.
A valid Drivers License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire. A valid Drivers License issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six 6 months of hire to operate a County vehicle.
This position may require additional certifications and training depending on the program assignment.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Considerable walking over rough terrain bending and kneeling exposure to adverse weather conditions and difficulttoaccess places. May be required to carry bulky equipment necessary for the performance of various tasks. May involve work around hazardous chemicals and unsanitary conditions.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION
This position may require driving a County or personal vehicle to various work sites.
This recruitment will be used to fill multiple vacancies in the Environmental Health Division. While the majority of vacanices are in the Food Protection Bureau due to organizational need there might also be vacancies in Water Quality & Hazardous Waste Sanitation & Safety and Air Quality Bureaus.
Schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with some afterhours and weekend work required.
