The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a fulltime temporary (nontenurable) faculty position #129230 at the rank of lecturer in anthropology and archaeology. This is a oneyear temporary appointment. The contract may be renewed annually based on available funding demonstrated need and satisfactory performance as assessed by annual evaluations. The start date for the appointment is August 1 2025.
We seek a southeastern U.S. archaeologist (precontact or historic) who can teach multiple online and onground sections of our general education World Prehistory course and one or more additional classes in their area of expertise. These may include existing courses (Southeastern Archaeology Tennessee Archaeology North American Archaeology Biological Anthropology or Sunken Continentsa critique of pseudoarchaeology) or a special topics course in the candidates specialty area (e.g. GIS lithic analysis pottery analysis cultural resource management). The successful candidate is expected to teach five undergraduate courses each semester.
A masters degree in anthropology or a closely related field or a masters degree with at least 18 hours of graduate work in the anthropology discipline is required by the appointment date.
Applicants with a terminal degree or who are ABD in anthropology or a closely related field will receive special consideration. In addition those with expertise in southeastern U.S. archaeology (precontact or historic) experience teaching undergraduate anthropology or archaeology courses will receive special consideration.
