The University of Iowa Health Care Information Systems has a great opportunity to join our team as a Database Architect! In this role you will manage a team of Reporting Analysts and Architects engaged in the acquisition analysis and validation of internal and external data sets in support of the healthcare enterprise. You will align data products with University of Iowa Health Care initiatives and goals partnering with departments to provide results for informed decision making.
This position is eligible for remote work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
Position Responsibilities:
- Organize and drive successful completion of data insight initiatives through effective collaboration with stakeholders.
- Own and govern the Power BI architecture and framework ensuring scalable secure and highperformance reporting solutions by defining best practices for data modeling semantic layer design workspace management dataset governance and integration with enterprise data sources.
- Provide strategic oversight for the Power BI ecosystem guiding development standards security models and deployment pipelines to support business intelligence at scale.
- Mentor Power BI developers across the organization promoting knowledge sharing and lead the creation and maintenance of training materials documentation and onboarding resources to drive adoption and consistent development practices.
- Act as a thought leader in the adoption of emerging Microsoft analytics technologies staying ahead of platform advancements and translating innovation into practical valuedriven solutions for the business.
- Develop implement and continuously improve data product lifecycle processes to maximize team effectiveness and quality.
- Participates with management in the review recommendation and prioritization of requests for data reports and projects.
- Leads business requirements gathering and managing centralized repository of notes documentation code and catalog of content.
- Utilize all Epic delivered content in decision tree process to embed a consistent and standard method of analytics content into workflows.
- Leads development of frontend reporting solutions metrics reports dashboards and selfservice reporting tools using various reporting applications (i.e. Epic Slicer Dicer RWB Radar dashboards 3rd party BI tools)
- Provides regular feedback and updates to leadership and key stakeholders.
- Maintains awareness of latest developments in key areas of responsibility and brings forward opportunities that have the potential to benefit the organization.
- Ensures data quality standards are met in all output through conducting quality assurance testing in QA and end user acceptance testing.
- Ensures data security standards are met in support of company policy procedure education and training of data privacy and security.
- Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Ensures that business needs technical solutions and governance are in alignment.
- Hires develops and manages the performance of staff.
- Assures staff is compliant with UI and UI Health Care policies and procedures.
- Identifies professional development opportunities and encourages continuous learning.

- Pay Grade: $84380.00 to commensurate Paygrade 6B

Education Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Business or Healthcare Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience. Masters degree preferred.
Experience Requirements:
- 57 years of experience with Epic reporting tools and content experience
- Working knowledge of SQL with ability to write complex queries and performance tune.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate ideas to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals and within a team.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Python R DAX
- Experience working with any BI application such as Tableau Power BI Business Objects or other related tools/application.
- Experience in recognizing business problems conceptualizing recommending and developing solutions.
