Job Description

Department: Engineering
Reports To: General Manager
Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance and operation of all hotel systems and equipment. This includes managing the preventive maintenance program ensuring guest satisfaction controlling departmental costs and leading a team of engineering staff. The role requires strong leadership technical proficiency and the ability to maintain high operational standards in safety functionality and cleanliness across all areas of the hotel.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in hotel engineering or related field; or
    2year college degree and 3 years of related experience; or
    4year college degree and 2 years of related experience.

  • Supervisory experience required.

  • Valid drivers license (as required by state law).

  • Current certifications as required by local state or federal authorities (e.g. HVAC pool operation electrical).

Position Requirements

  • Ability to work extended or irregular hours including nights weekends and holidays as required.

  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods.

  • Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally 50 pounds frequently and/or 20 pounds constantly to lift carry push pull or move objects.

  • Ability to evaluate and respond quickly to emergencies and operational challenges.

  • Strong multitasking and timemanagement skills.

  • Must be able to convey information clearly and effectively.

  • Strong problemsolving abilities with attention to detail.

  • Comfortable working with financial data and performing basic arithmetic calculations.

  • Ability to understand and implement operational procedures training materials and safety documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise schedule and train engineering staff.

  • Conduct performance reviews provide coaching and enforce disciplinary measures in accordance with hotel policies.

  • Participate in hiring onboarding and ongoing development of engineering team members.

  • Maintain a positive and professional work environment promoting collaboration and communication with all departments.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Ensure hotel equipment and systems operate safely and efficiently including HVAC electrical plumbing and mechanical systems.

  • Oversee the preventive maintenance program for guest rooms public spaces and backofhouse areas.

  • Maintain operational manuals warranty records and maintenance logs for all equipment.

  • Evaluate and inspect contractor work and outside labor as needed.

  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and guestroom repairs.

  • Monitor inventory and procure supplies within budget guidelines.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety codes and regulations.

  • Lead the hotel Safety Committee and coordinate fire drills and emergency response training.

  • Maintain updated and accessible Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) in coordination with Housekeeping.

  • Conduct regular inspections of fire and life safety systems including extinguishers alarms and sprinklers.

  • Ensure pool and spa areas meet all health and safety standards.

Guest Satisfaction & Communication

  • Handle guest service issues related to maintenance professionally and efficiently.

  • Foster a culture of excellent service within the Engineering team.

  • Use proper twoway radio communication and ensure team members do the same.

  • Maintain clear records and communication with the General Manager and other department heads.

Other Duties

  • Participate in the ManageronDuty (MOD) rotation as scheduled.

  • Attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings monthly employee meetings and other hotel functions as required.

  • Maintain proper grooming and wear approved uniform and name tag during all working hours.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance in compliance with scheduling requirements.

This position pays $67000$73000 annually based on experience.
