Washburn Centers Bachelors level Interns gain professional development and a solid foundation of knowledge as they build careers in the mental health field. Our unique program offers collaborative and direct field placements to undergraduate students exploring careers in childrens community mental health.
Use your internship to actively improve the lives of MN kids
Each intern will get firsthand experience working with children accessing mental health services and will support families alongside both peers and independently licensed Therapists and Case Managers.
Our field placements offer handson training in a therapeutic group setting and interns will begin training on the Development Repair Model as well as Crisis Prevention. Interns will work side by side with license clinicians to support children.
Gain knowledge youll use for the rest of your career
Interns will also participate in team meetings and consultations individual supervision with a licensed therapist and will have access to inservice workshops.
Support therapeutic classroom treatment along with clinicians for children ages 3 to 9 including but not limited to:
Work with cogroup facilitators to provide and lead scheduled group services
Support therapeutic activities based on the childs individual treatment plan goals and objectives developmental needs and therapeutic group themes once per week
Assist in leading a group environment that demonstrates consistency respectful communication safety predictability clear limits and encouragement
Observe child behavior in classroom settings
Intervene respectfully safely and directly to maintain the childrens physical and emotional safety and use therapeutic approaches to help prevent aggressive destructive and harmful behavior
Ensure Minnesota and HIPAA data privacy requirements are followed.
INTERNSHIP HOURS
Summer Internships run from Late May through Mid August 2025 with flexibility to start earlier or extend placements if needed. All Intern candidates must be able to meet the day/hour requirements of the internship to be eligible.
> Morning Internship: Monday through Thursday 9 AM to 12:30 PM
> Afternoon Internship: Monday through Thursday 12:30 pm 4:30 pm
Interns also have access to consultation groups and team meetings as well as a variety of other learning opportunities if their schedule allows.
Students may receive college credit for their work or use this opportunity to build on their experience around childrens mental health.
