Primary Responsibilities:
Design and deliver engaging health lessons that meet the TEKS for 8th grade.
Teach topics such as CPR nutrition personal health human growth and development mental health substance abuse prevention healthy relationships and disease prevention.
Create a safe and respectful classroom where sensitive topics are discussed appropriately.
Encourage critical thinking and informed decisionmaking about personal and social health issues.
Use a variety of instructional strategies and assessments to meet diverse learning needs.
Maintain communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
Collaborate with colleagues school counselors and administrators to support student wellbeing.
Maintain accurate records and comply with district state and federal policies.
Participate in professional development and schoolbased activities as required.
Experience/Expectations:
Bachelors degree in Health Education Physical Education or a related field.
Valid Texas teaching certificate with Health Education 612 or appropriate middle school certification.
Strong understanding of adolescent development and health education pedagogy.
Ability to teach in a culturally responsive and inclusive manner.
Classroom management and communication skills.
Classroom setting with occasional duties outside normal teaching responsibilities (e.g. assemblies health fairs).
May involve supervision of students in nonclassroom settings.
Participation in schoolwide activities staff meetings and parent conferences may be required beyond regular hours.
