Compliance Program Wastewater Compliance Division 1

These are entrylevel positions as an engineering specialist in the Compliance Program of the Water and Science Administration. The incumbents in these positions will be responsible for evaluating wastewater treatment facilities and private contract laboratories for compliance with federal/State NPDES and State groundwater permits including evaluating treatment process operation and maintenance quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) functions sampling and preservation analytical methodology flow monitoring record keeping and reporting. In addition the incumbents will provide engineering expertise to evaluate specific sites review proposed improvement plans and develop comprehensive environmental programs to address water pollution sewage control and stormwater control. The incumbents will conduct inspections to assess compliance with wastewater discharge permits sediment and erosion control wetlands and waterway construction. These positions respond to emergency incidents or natural disasters as requested. The incumbents in these positions may testify as an expert witness related to engineering analytical procedures or techniques or NPDES regulations. These positions consist of reviewing engineering plans and drawings wastewater treatment plant improvement plans and biomonitoring study plans.

The incumbents in these positions will be required to drive a State vehicle. If you maintain an outofstate driving license you must provide a certified copy of your driving record for the appropriate Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of appointment. Individuals must maintain a drivers license with no more than 5 points on their driving record in order to drive a State vehicle.
Education: A Bachelors degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.
Experience: None.

Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with at least 20 credit hoursin engineering and two years performing engineering or architecturalwork in pollution control waste remediation resource conservation environmental protection public health and safety or related areas may be substituted for the required education.
may substitute the possession of a current Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements for the required education.
may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Environmental field of work on a yearforyear basis for the required education.
