What You Will Achieve
As part of the Comparative Medicine team you will support the Comparative Medicine veterinary program by providing medical care to various species and perform veterinary technical duties. In addition you will be responsible for Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) administrative functions.
How You Will Achieve It
Provide veterinary care for all species used in research and development.
First line evaluation of clinical cases
In consultation with a veterinarian initiate diagnostics and treatment
Monitor treatment and progress
Manage and coordinate preventive medicine program: vaccinations microbiology disease surveillance
Provide after hours weekend and holiday clinical coverage
Provide behavior training for different species as needed
Oversight of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) administrative responsibilities
Provide management of the animal use protocol review process using a webbased tracking system for submission IACUC review and investigator communications. This includes tracking of regulatory metrics prepares reports/schedules and communicates with others about the protocol review process.
Conduct initial administrative screen of all animal use protocols and to assess completeness and makes determination whether the protocol is compliant with institutional local state and federal regulations/guidelines/policies.
Assist the IACUC Chair and Attending Veterinarian in the efficient operation of the site IACUC and related subcommittees including scheduling of routine meetings set agendas for meetings.
Draft meeting minutes in a timely manner and forward them to key stakeholders before release.
Manage and participate in the semiannual animal care inspections and program reviews including follow up on any noted deficiencies and preparation of draft reports to the Institutional Official and regulatory/accreditation agencies.
Regulatory Compliance:
Participate in all vivarium inspections (USDA DEA state) Corporate Audits and AAALAC site visits as requested.
Assist in the investigations of animal welfare concerns as needed
Provide support to the postapproval monitoring (PAM) program; including scheduling coordinating participating in documenting and ensuring follow up on all PAM activities.
Will be required to work under one of the following: The United States Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act and associated Regulations and Standards the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals Good Laboratory Practices and AAALAC accreditation standards.
BS/BA or AA with Licensed Certified Veterinary Technician certification required with 6 years experience
Experience providing hands on clinical care to a wide variety of lab animal species.
Regulatory and IACUC experience
Must possess clear understanding of regulations guidance (e.g. USDA GLP) and AAALAC accreditation standards related to the use of animals in research teaching and testing. Be knowledgeable about IACUC guidelines Pfizer corporate policy 901 on animal welfare.
Must possess excellent organizational interpersonal and communications skills as well as sensitivity to handling confidential information. Must be detailed oriented flexible.
Physical/Mental Requirements
For this position if at a site with nonhuman primates you are expected to enter the nonhuman primate areas as part of your job responsibilities a prehire requirement is either providing proof of measles immunity or receiving the measles vaccination before hire.

Essential Personnel are defined as the staff who are required to report to their designated work location to ensure the operation of essential functions or departments during an emergency as determined by Pfizer or when the business has suspended operations. There are some individuals who may be required to perform essential services remotely and those individuals will be identified in advance and notified by their supervisors but in most cases Essential Personnel are required to be onsite during an emergency or suspension of operations.
