Salary Range: $75000 $80000

About the Role

Our Client is seeking an Employee and Labor Relations Specialist to serve as a key resource in fostering positive working relationships between employees managers and labor unions. This role requires a proactive and strategic professional who thrives in a fastpaced environment can work independently and is driven to deliver highimpact results with minimal oversight.

The ideal candidate is a selfstarter who brings strong problemsolving skills a commitment to customer service and a deep understanding of employee relations labor law and workplace policies. As part of the universitys HR team this role plays a critical function in guiding leadership and employees through complex employment matters while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations:
  • Act as a primary point of contact for employees and managers addressing workplace concerns mediating disputes and fostering a culture of open communication.
  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints workplace conflicts and policy violations ensuring fair and timely resolutions.
  • Provide expert guidance on performance management disciplinary actions and conflict resolution strategies.
Labor Relations:
  • Serve as a liaison between university leadership and labor unions ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Assist in grievance resolution contract interpretation and negotiations working closely with leadership and legal counsel as needed.
  • Monitor trends and developments in labor law to proactively address emerging workforce challenges.
Policy Compliance & Risk Management:
  • Ensure university policies align with federal and state employment laws including ADA FMLA FLSA Title IX and EEOC regulations.
  • Develop and conduct training sessions for managers and employees on workplace policies labor agreements and best practices in employee relations.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of investigations employee interactions and laborrelated matters to mitigate legal risks.
Strategic HR Support:
  • Provide guidance to leadership on proactive strategies to enhance employee engagement retention and workplace culture.
  • Collaborate with HR partners to drive initiatives that support organizational goals while ensuring a positive and legally compliant work environment.
  • Utilize data and analytics to identify trends and make informed recommendations on improving employee relations practices.

What Were Looking For

Experience & Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources Business Administration Labor Relations or a related field required.
  • Minimum 35 years of experience in employee relations labor relations or human resources within a large organization preferably in higher education or the public sector.
  • Experience handling employee investigations grievances and policy interpretation is strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of Employment Law: Strong understanding of federal and state labor laws including ADA Title VII FMLA and FLSA.
