The Performance and Analysis Unit (PAI) develops and implements populationbased efforts to monitor and improve clinical effectiveness through systemsbased strategies and interventions. Its goal is to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of health care by informing clinical decisionmaking processes changing patient and clinician behaviors enhancing the care choices of physicians other providers and patients and optimizing care tools and systems.
The Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center (MGHCC) is among the leading cancer care providers in theUnited Statesand is the largest volume provider of oncology services inNew England. MGHCC comprises 24 fully integrated multidisciplinary clinical programs and a vast array of support and educational services. Through a powerful synergy between laboratory scientists and bedside physicians theMassGeneralCancerCenterfosters innovation in all phases of cancer research. Physician investigators conduct nearly 400 clinical trials annually.
The Data Analyst II will be responsible for acquisition analysis interpretation and reporting of hospital and physician data to support a range of performance improvement efforts. Reporting to the Drs. Hochberg and Weilburg and under the direction of the Program Director Data Analysis and Reporting the Data Analyst II works directly with the other members of the PAI and Cancer Center as well as individuals at various levels throughout the organization. S/he must be able to work independently and collaboratively to develop quality metrics and document data requirements according to project specifications. The Data Analyst II will maintain various databases and be accountable for the timely and accurate production of routine monitoring reports as well as special projects. This requires experience working with healthcare administrative databases/reporting along with creativity and initiative to evolve the data reporting systems to meet the needs of the changing healthcare environment. S/he will need a thorough understanding of the data/information quality principles in medical data management as well as manipulation and interpretation of large databases in an academic medical center environment.
Develops standardized and ad hoc reports by using internal and external data to profile MD utilization and financial reports as necessary.
Works with members of the PAI andCancerCenterteams to define problems and clarify study members of the department determine data needs and assists in designing study tools and reports as necessary.
Provides focused analysis of data for physician groups as directed by senior level managers.
Maintains databases to support the analytic and database needs of the unit.
Coordinates with external departments to obtain data. Ensure data integrity.
Gathers and compiles documentation on standard data sets.
Creates documentation for regular and ad hoc reports to facilitate report replication.
Identifies sources of useful data to describe clinical and operations work processes and outcomes.
Regularly reviews data identify trends and communicate changes in trends to supervisor.
Sources of data include but are not limited to the information systems at the hospital and department level claims data and statewide and national comparative data.
Lead conduct or coordinate special analytic projects as assigned.
Delivers reports and analyses in a timely fashion.
Provides administrative/analytic/reporting support to senior medical and leadership committees as needed.
And other duties as assigned.

Bachelors degree in related field required.
Masters degree in healthcare information systems or related field or related work experience strongly preferred.
Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in healthcare field required.
Experience with data collection database management analysis and report formatting and written presentation of analysis.

Strong computer skills (SQL a must. MS Access MS Office SAS preferred).
Thorough knowledge of databases and computer software including Excel Access for database with TSI and Cognos is a plus.
Must be able to interface and work with outside vendors.
Demonstrated expertise in manipulating and interpreting clinical and/or claims databases.
Knowledge of managed care reporting including claims analysis and key indicators (PMPM units/1000 sound understanding of working with CPT and DRG coding information.
Superiororganizational written/verbal and presentation skills and the ability to work well with individuals at all levels within institution.
Independent learner who can acquire the necessary software skills to get the job done.
Ability to work with staff within all levels of the organization.
Demonstrates ability to identify problems and follow problems through until resolved.
