What You Will Be Doing
The incumbent of this position is responsible for ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements employment laws rules and regulations. Key duties include reviewing and making recommendations on complex workplace investigations determining appropriate discipline responding to grievances and advising managers on human resource issues.
The position also involves establishing priorities managing the employee relations unit and maintaining effective relationships with client agencies which includes extensive contact with internal and external customers. Additionally the incumbent serves as a staff resource for contract negotiations 5 of their time) and participates in grievance arbitrations informal hearings and other venues as a department representative or witness. The role requires making decisions and taking actions including recruiting appointing training evaluating and disciplining staff as well as approving leave.

In alignment with DOP mission to provide direct human resource services to the Executive Branch the Employee Relations Program is a centralized resource offering expertise and tools empowering State of Alaska employees to prevent and resolve personnel issues. This consultant position is overtime eligible and may be located in Anchorage in the Division of Personnel offices in the Atwood Building or in Juneau in the State Office Building.
The Working Environment You Can Expect
The Employee Relations Program offices are located either in the Atwood Building in Downtown Anchorage or the State Office Building located in Juneau. Both offices are secure spaces with open concept work spaces and great views. In Anchorage you have a view of downtown Turnagain Arm and the Anchorage Bowl. From Juneau you are able to see the Gastineau Channel.
